I should call my coach and Evan to let them know. The league had protocols for this sort of thing. It wasn’t uncommon for something like this to happen to omega players. We would be taken care of. I could book a room at a hotel and hunker down for a few days. The team had people who could help by making sure I had everything I needed for situations like this. It was annoying, but I wouldn’t be the first omega to go into heat unexpectedly.

I’d miss a game, which would suck, but based on our opponents, the team would be fine without me.

My phone was right next to me on the bench. All I had to do was pick it up and make the call. Make the adult decision to deal with this in the correct way.

Yet, I hesitated.

All I wanted was Silas. Not a cold lonely hotel room.

I pulled out my phone, and instead of calling my coach, I navigated to the Uber app. I requested a car with an omega driver. I put my sweatshirt on, putting the hood over my head. I might get in trouble for walking out of here in regular clothes and not a suit, but I didn’t care. I needed to get to Silas as soon as possible.

Chapter 14

Silas

The chime of the doorbell was such a surprise, I didn’t even recognize the noise when it echoed through the house. I had forgotten that we even had one installed. Elliot and I had debated for months on whether or not to get one of those fancy doorbell cameras. We finally just opted to do a simple doorbell camera that still had the chime that sounded throughout the house when someone pushed the button. It also sent an alert to my phone. It wasn’t as if people came to the apartment very often, or if they did, we were expecting them and they rarely used the doorbell.

To hear the bell this late at night was odd. Who the hell would be here? The crew I worked with was all home with their families or out for the night. I hoped they hadn’t come here expecting me to join them. I’d politely but firmly declined all invitations to go out and party after the game.

I was already in the bedroom, ready to pull off my uniform. Usually, I took it off before I left the stadium. Tonight I just threw on the hoodie and ran out of the place like my ass was on fire rather than running into people I knew or people who knew Elliot. I did not want to see him in person, else I was likely to do something stupid like drop to my knees and beg him to take me back, tell him that I was willing to be a stay-at-home alpha. That I would dedicate my whole life to his needs. All he had to do was say the word.

I pulled out my phone and navigated to the camera app.

Seeing Elliot standing outside my door, leaning heavily against the frame was definitely not on my bingo card. He had his gear bag and he wore regular clothes, not the typical post-game suit that he was expected to wear after a game.

I raced out of the bedroom, down the hall to the front door. I pulled it open. Elliot stumbled forward, and I caught him. His sweet omega scent hit my nostrils. It was thicker than normal, or it had just been so long since I’d smelled him this close.

“Oh, fuck.” He groaned, making a sound that was a combination of pain and respite.

“Elliot?”

“Silas.” His voice came out raspy, with a hint of relief.

“Let’s get you inside.”

I pulled him into the apartment and kicked the door closed. “Are you alright? Are you hurt?” He hadn’t been injured during the game. I knew that, I had been there the whole time, and if I’d witnessed any injury to my omega, I’d have made a fool of myself.

He shook his head. “Need you.” He pulled at my clothes. His fingers gripped my shirt, and he tugged on it like he was trying to rip it off. When that didn’t work, he wrapped his arms around me and buried his nose where my neck met my shoulder, nuzzling against my skin. He kissed my neck, his tongue darting out and tasting my skin.

“Oh, fuck,” I said. I instantly went hard. So suddenly that all the blood rushing from my body nearly made me pass out. “Elliot, just a minute. Let’s—let’s figure out what’s going on.” I inhaled, drawing in his scent. Realization hit me before he even said the words.

“Isn’t it obvious? I went into heat. I saw you for the first time in months and instantly went into heat. It’s all your fault. I’m not scheduled to go into heat for a while. It’s all your fault.” His words were slurred, and he continued to touch and explore with his hands as he spoke. He was moving so fast that I couldn’tstop him. Ever brush of his fingertips over my skin sent sparks shooting down my limbs.

“Let me get you set up in the bedroom, and then I’ll leave. I’ll make sure you have everything you need.” I tried to grab his hands to keep him from groping me, but he was like an octopus, his touch was everywhere. It took everything I had to make myself pull away from him. He was all I ever wanted, and I couldn’t have him.

“No.” He hugged me tighter. “Don’t leave me.”

“Elliot. We can’t. We’ve never—”

“I know we’ve never shared my heat. But I need you. Please.” His gaze bored into mine, and I saw the desperation there, but also the desire. He did want this. Attraction and lust were never the issue between us.

And he needed to play in a game in two days. And if he had a long heat without an alpha, there was no way he was going to be back on his feet in time. He’d be devastated if he wasn’t there to help his team advance further.

“Elliot.” I tried for stern, but instead, my voice came out like a whine. I was seconds from caving.

“Silas, please, don’t make me go somewhere else. Use someone else.”

He wasn’t going to find another alpha to spend his heat with. I knew that. He knew that.
