He followed my gaze. “You found the new girl, huh? They say her name’s Persephone Harrin.”
“Harrin,” I repeated under my breath.
Of course.
Why wouldn’t they take that too?
“When did she get here?” I asked quietly.
“This afternoon.” He tilted his head. “Why’s she dressed like that?”
Good question.
Every inch of her was hidden—baggy clothes, cap pulled low, gloves covering her hands.
But that face.
I’d know that face anywhere.
Silver hair slipped free from beneath her cap, catching the cafeteria lights. Her skin was pale as moonlight, her eyes dark as midnight.
And that mouth—soft, perfect, open in shock.
A ghost.
My personal ghost.
“You want me to set up a meeting?” Dev asked.
I forced my jaw to lock. “Do it.”
“The usual place?”
I nodded. “Yeah. And get Ash out of solitary.”
Dev winced. “That might be tricky. He threw two guards over the railing. One broke his leg.”
Lyra Vale stepped up to me, smoothing back her hair in front of me, blocking my view of Seph.
“Hi K.”
I looked at her briefly. She blinked her eyelashes at me like it meant something.
“What?” I asked her.
Her face fell. “I’m just saying hi. Do you want to come sit with me today?”
I turned to Dev, ignoring Lyra completely. I don’t know why the fuck she was still there.
“Solitary huh?” I swore under my breath. “Dammit, Ash.”
“He was running to see her,” Dev said, smirking. “Can’t blame him. She’s pretty enough. I wonder what she looks like under all that—”
My head snapped toward him. The air between us changed. “Don’t you ever fucking talk about her like that. Do you hear me?”
Dev froze, eyes widening. “Alright. Sorry. Shit. You—uh—know her?”
“K?” Lyra said again.
