I walk to the sofa and sit beside her. She lies on her side, calmness sweeping her beautiful features.

“Serenity, we’ll get through it all together,” I tell her.

Her eyes flutter open. She lifts a hand to gently stroke my cheek.

“We’re moving forward, Mrs. Pitucco. I’m sorry for swapping your birth control pills. It was selfish. I just wanted all of you.”

A smile curves her lips. “I know. If you hadn’t done that, I’m not sure I’d have ever gotten pregnant or married. I love Maddenmore than anything. He’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Thank you for never giving up on me. I told you I was crazy, and still you wouldn’t let me go.”

“Fuck no,” I growl.

“Nico Pitucco, I’ve always loved you. I’m yours forever.”

A tear slips down my cheek. “You better believe you're mine. You’re the only woman who ever owned my heart. I love you, too.”

I press a kiss to her lips. “Come on. Let’s take a relaxing bath.”

She exhales, a soft smile blooming. “Now that sounds perfect.”

Chapter Twenty-Nine

NICO

Aweek later, I take my wife on a brief day trip out of town. She’s texted Kisha three times since we boarded the helicopter.

“Serenity, I promise we’ll be back around nine tonight.”

She releases a breath and rests her head on my shoulder. “Fine. I’ll chill.”

I squeeze her against my frame.

“Besides going out to dinner, can I get a hint about where else we’re going?”

I meet her gaze. “No.”

She chuckles. “Not even a little hint?” Serenity smiles, squeezing her index finger and thumb close together.

“Nope. Enjoy the ride with your husband, Mrs. Pitucco.”

Serenity wraps an arm around my waist.

She’s silent for a beat.

“For the first time in years, I feel comfortable living in Delaware again.”

I plant a kiss on her forehead. “Good.”

“I’d like to get out with Madden in a few weeks. You know, take him to the park.”

I smile. “He’ll like that.”

Getting Serenity back on her medication has made a difference. I hadn’t known she’d stopped taking it. I was so caught up chasing her enemies that I failed to see her slipping away from reality.

I think today will be fun for her. Hell, fun for us.

The helicopter settles onto the vacant parking lot beside an indoor soccer arena.

The rotors continue spinning overhead as I climb out first and offer Serenity my hand.
