Eagle Heart nodded. "Yes, we shall do this at once. My mind has been elsewhere, trying to locate the wolves and the Big Person so I might ask for their help. Can you tell me what is happening in the surroundings of our friend?"
Gray Falcon nodded. "Yes, I see the Cree war party has caught up to Strikes Fast, and I also see him readying himself to go into battle with the Cree. But, if you will allow me to stay here but a moment, I believe I might be able to help him. I must, however, concentrate without interruption."
"Yes, we will do this."
As soon as the three men cut a path down into the coulee, they paused beneath a grand, wide and sweeping willow tree. Gray Falcon slid off his pony and came to stand next to the creek which was running through the ravine. He closed his eyes and concentrated. Ah, he was right. There was trouble. In the middle of a meadow, his friend Strikes Fast was deep in a talk with the leader of the Cree war party.
But, wait! There was one of the Cree who was disregarding a warrior's honor and we… Realizing what had to be done, Gray Falcon acted.
Zoom!Because his power had always included the ability to control lightning, Gray Falcon sent a flash of a storm's current directly into the Cree traitor's bow, landing it exactly where Gray Falcon had aimed it. He noticed, however, it had also sent a shock wave through the Cree warrior's body.
Next, with his mind's eye, Gray Falcon gazed into the rest of the environment around his friend. But, he saw no other man within the Cree war party who was disregarding the warrior's sacred honor. Good.
Gray Falcon drew in a deep breath. It was the best he could do for now. He would again join both Eagle Heart and the McIntosh patriarch, and would urge them both to set their horses into a race toward their friend.
