River glares at me. “Yeah. That’s all,” he mutters.
I pick my phone up. A drop of sweat lands on the screen, and the back, which had been sitting on River’s stomach, is also slick. I wipe it as best I can on my jeans, then stuff it back into my back pocket.
“Okay, it’s getting kind of hot in here.” I stand up.
River glares at me from his spot.
I smile back and brush the hair from his forehead. “Sex in saunas is dangerous, River. You should probably get out and cool down.”
“You should probably go fuck yourself,” he retorts. “Then again, you’d probably like that.” He gingerly sits up, using his hand to help himself to his feet. He’s wobbly, but he’ll be able to get out of the sauna without passing out soon.

The withering look he gives me sets me off all over again, and I giggle as I head out of the sauna.
It’s immediately cooler, and I breathe in the fresh air.

On one of the walls inside the women’s locker room, I spot a flyer for the Nyx Halloween party. I rip it off, re-reading the description that I’ve already memorized.

PANDORA
“I don’t think this is a good idea,” Carly says from my bed.
I twirl around in my desk chair. “Why wouldn’t it be a good idea?”
I catch a glimpse of myself in the large mirror, and I have to admit, I look damn good. I’d brought my costume from last year along, but I’ve added extra accessories since then. The long, flowy, ancient Greece-inspired black dress now sports a belt with a snake buckle, and I’ve upgraded my snake earrings to be even more dangly. The full face makeup isn’t quite done, but I’ve got snake scales started. I’ve tied my hair into separate braids and added little snake clips at the bottom.
The crowning piece is a literal crown with snakes extending in all directions. It also covers the top half of my face. It’s heavy but worth it for the effect.
My phone buzzes with a text.
