“All I can tell you is to trust your gut. You know you don’t like new people, so you might just be leery of him because you don’t know anything about him. Keep an eye on him and see how he’s moving before you do anything. If Gunna is vouching for him, then you know he’s already looked into him to some degree,” Keynauri reasoned.

I couldn’t shake the feeling in my gut. It wasn’t necessarily that I thought he was a danger to me, but I didn’t like the way he popped up in our city. Gunna claimed he moved from Haiti to finish school. Something about his story wasn’t adding up, and I was determined to get to the bottom of things.

“You’re probably right. I told Jett to do whatever he could to get through the red tape on his records. I won’t be able to rest until I get all of the details on him.”

“Fasho. It’ll all come out eventually, and if we need to handle it, then we will,” Logic commented.

“Hell yeah. What’s up with you, though? I saw your momma posting scriptures online talking about how children are supposed to honor their parents and how family ain’t shit. What’s going on with her?” I inquired. Logic and his momma’s relationship was rocky at best, but I thought things were getting better since her last stint in jail.

“Man, fuck her. I’m so tired of her and her raggedy-ass family. Every time I turn around, somebody is calling with a sob storyfollowed by a request for money. She’s mad because I let her silly ass stay with me, and she went to the mall and stole a whole bunch of shit and was selling the shit out of my garage. I’m all for a mothafucka having a side hustle, but she could have done that shit at her sister’s house or something.

“Don’t come to my shit, making the block hot and giving strangers my damn address. A young bitch pulled up to the house, banging on the door in the middle of the night, talking about she didn’t get her Chanel wallet with her purse. They got into it, and the next thing I know, they are scrappin’ on my fucking porch. I’m standing there in my mothafuckin’ drawls looking crazy as hell. I didn’t know whether to pull out my phone and record or break up the fight.”

“What did you end up doing?” Keyz asked before I got the chance.

“I recorded the video and put that shit on Worldstar. Dana was giving that young hoe the business, so there was no need in my rushing to jump in. The only reason I intervened was because some Church’s Chicken-built bitch ran out of ol’ girl’s car, ready to jump my momma. Well, she didn’t run out. It was more like a brisk waddle. I shoved her heavy-breathing ass out of the way and yanked Dana’s dumb ass off that girl.

“They threatened to call the police, and I told them I would shoot their asses for trespassing. How the fuck are you gonna call the police because you were cheated out of stolen goods? Bitch better charge it to the game.”

Logic casually smoked his blunt while he finished telling us the story. Meanwhile, Keyz and I were howling with laughter.

“Yo, you’re crazy as fuck, but I see where you got it from. She ain’t have to snatch her wig like that, damn.” I chuckled while I watched the video on my phone.

“Man, I was so pissed. I tried to overlook the bullshit, but then I came home early one day, and she had some dirty-lookingMr. Potato Head-looking nigga in my house, eating her pussy on my brand-new couch. I lost my shit and put them both out. She’s been blowing up my phone, talking about she needs her merchandise. I told her to get it back in blood. Her ass didn’t even have enough sense to steal me a couple of pieces when she was selling out of my mothafuckin’ house.”

“You ain’t wrong. The least she could have done was copped you a few fits with her five-finger discount.” I laughed as my phone alerted me to a new notification. Lyric posted a new video on Instagram, so I clicked on it to see what she was up to. I smiled when I saw her and my pretty princess wearing matching buns and pink outfits. The caption said:GRWM mommy and daughter edition.

Baby girl was a natural in front of the camera, and I couldn’t contain my smile as she modeled her pink dress and leggings. I joked about her looking like me, but there were some features that resembled mine. Folks could call me delusional all they wanted. She was her momma’s twin through and through, though. Both of my babies were beautiful as hell, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to retire my guns anytime soon.

I checked their location and saw they were at the grocery store on Livingston, and I decided to pull up on my family.

“I’m about to head out. I’ve got some shit to handle,” I announced as I got up from my seat.

“Your ass is always dipping out and leaving early. Let me find out you’ve got a bitch and hiding her from the crew,” Keyz joked. Logic smirked, and I wanted to beat his ass. He teased me every chance he could about Lyric hiding me like a side nigga.

“I’m single and living life right now. The next time I get in a relationship, I’m marrying her ass and pumping her full of babies,” I proclaimed.

“I hear you. I’m tryna do the same thing with Ari’s stank ass. She’s got about one more week before I pull up and hold her asshostage. Either she’s gonna be mine, or I’ma terrorize every man who even looks in her direction. I need my family back together, and she needs to get with the program.”

“Gone on, Nauri. You’re out here sounding like a stalker. If you want to get your bitch back, the best thing you can do is ice her out. Make her think you’re moving on, and I bet she’ll get her act together,” Logic advised.

“Is that how you plan to get Nova back? I heard she was running the streets being a thot. Your method may not be as foolproof as you think,” Keynauri countered.

“Who the fuck told you that? I ride by her house every night, and I don’t see shit going on. Let me know what’s up.” Logic got out of his seat like he was ready to go to war. Clearly, we all needed some relationship advice from someone with more credentials than we had. Everyone in the crew was going through it.

I blasted my music as I turned on the street where the grocery store was located. Since I hadn’t told Lyric I was coming, I double-checked to make sure her location hadn’t changed. Once I got confirmation, I pulled into the parking lot in search of her new truck.

The hair on the back of my neck stood up when I saw her standing next to her truck crying. What really had me on high alert was the nigga standing next to her. She was holding onto Symphonee, who was trying to wipe her mother’s tears. My anger boiled as I whipped into the first parking space I saw and headed in their direction with my gun in my hands.

“Aye! What the fuck is going on?” I roared, yoking Jacq’s ass up and hemming him against the car next to Lyric’s.

“Wait! East, let him go! He was helping me!” Lyric shouted.

Reluctantly, I let go, then stepped back to access the scene.

“What the hell happened? Why are you in the parking lot crying, and why didn’t you call me if there was an issue?” I fired off questions back-to-back. I needed answers, and I needed them now. The sight of her tear-streaked face only infuriated me more.

“I’m sorry. Everything happened so fast, I didn’t have time to process anything.” Lyric’s face was flushed red, and I could tell she was shaken up from whatever happened.
