Without hesitation, Vincent rolled up the sleeve of his shirt and extended his arm. His movements were smooth and unhurried, as though none of this affected him in the slightest. The doctor quickly collected his blood before stepping back.
"Is that enough?" Vincent asked.
"Yes, Mr. Jacobs. This is more than enough."
"How long?"
The doctor glanced at the samples in his hands.
"It shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Please give me a moment. I'll run the test immediately."
Vincent gave a brief nod.
The doctor gathered the samples and hurried out of the room.
The door closed behind him, and silence immediately settled over the room once again.
The only sound left was Alexa's uneven breathing and the occasional hitch of a suppressed sob.
Vincent slowly shifted his gaze back to her.
The anger he had been holding back all evening was no longer hidden. It lingered in his eyes now, dark and cold enough to make Alexa's stomach twist.
"What exactly did you say to Juliet?"
His voice was quiet, but there was a dangerous edge beneath it that made her entire body tense.
Alexa froze.
Before she could answer, Vincent took a slow step forward.
The sound of his shoes against the floor seemed unnaturally loud in the silence.
"Have I ever touched you?" he asked, staring directly into her eyes.
His gaze never wavered.
"Even once?"
His jaw tightened visibly as he continued looking at her.
"When exactly did I make you pregnant with my child?"
The question hit Alexa like a bucket of ice water.
Her heart nearly stopped.
For years, she had imagined countless scenarios involving Vincent, but never once had she imagined being on the receiving end of this look. There was no warmth in his eyes, no patience, and certainly no affection. There was only anger, cold and controlled, which somehow made it even more terrifying.
Fear surged through her body.
"Vincent, I..."
Her lips trembled as she struggled to find the right words.
"I don't understand what you're talking about."
"You don't?"
