Juliet bit back a smile.
"Isn't it obvious?"
She glanced toward the bathroom door.
"I'm staying at his house, aren't I?"
Alexa stopped breathing for a second.
Juliet continued innocently.
"After everything Vincent did, do you really think I was going to stay with him? Since we're already over, why would I keep wasting my time?"
The line went completely silent.
For several long seconds, neither woman spoke.
Then Alexa's voice returned.
This time it sounded strained.
Almost panicked.
"You've completely lost your mind."
Juliet raised an eyebrow.
"What?"
"You shouldn't be there!" Alexa blurted out. "You have no idea what you're doing. Have you forgotten everything? You've stolen from Cassian. You've hurt him countless times. Do you seriously think he's just going to let all that go?"
Juliet's expression slowly cooled.
Alexa continued speaking rapidly.
"I told you before, didn't I? Cassian is terrifying. Once he gets his hands on someone, he never lets them go. You shouldn't even be near him."
The more Alexa spoke, the stranger her words sounded.
Juliet listened quietly.
"Men like him are dangerous," Alexa continued. "You don't know what he could do to you. He could torture you. He could lock you up. He could destroy your entire life. You're not safe there, Juliet. Just leave."
Juliet stared at the wall thoughtfully.
For someone supposedly worried about her safety, Alexa seemed awfully desperate to keep her away from Cassian.
The realization made Juliet's eyes narrow slightly.
"I'm only saying this because you're my cousin," Alexa continued, her voice growing more emotional. "I care about you. Think about Vincent. You're just angry because of what happened at the club. Once you calm down, you're going to regret this."
Juliet rolled her eyes.
"Really?"
"Of course!" Alexa exclaimed. "What do you think is going to happen when Vincent finds out you're staying at Cassian's house? He'll leave you! Your relationship will be over forever!"
Juliet almost laughed.
