Of course, we were doing everything in secrecy, not wanting our parents to find out and begin closely monitoring our interactions. So, with no interventions…our shit got intense. I’m talking…I never experienced that level of jealousy. I was always horny, and constantly worrying that she was fucking somebody else whenever I was back at home.
And then she goes through my phone one day, sees some texts from a few girls, and broke up with me. Then after I’d gone out of me way to show her that she had it wrong, she starts saying that a long-distance relationship wasn’t gonna work, anyway.
Initially, I tried to tough it out, but when I last came to Houston and she wouldn’t let me touch her…and wild thoughts started swirling around in my head…I decided that I wasgonna fight for mine. So, I told my moms that I was ready to permanently stay with my pops. Now, there we were.
I was in Houston to stay, and Jahreiah was no longer gonna be able to use me being in NY as a cop out. I was on that ass now. True story.

Jahrein and Raven’s crib was massive and had been custom designed to accommodate their massive family. Although it was nine of them, they all had their own bedrooms. Therefore, with two of them now living outside of the home, I literally had my own room whenever I slept over.
We got back to the crib at about two in the morning, which I thought was lit. Since Jahrae and JJ were legal, their moms and pops would extend the curfew for the rest of us, as long as we remained together. I knew that we needed to take advantage of riding their coattails with the freedom, because I was sure that it wouldn’t be long before they’d abandon high school parties altogether and start hitting up the clubs, where we wouldn’t be able to go.
Overall, despite having a fight, my night had been good, and there were no second thoughts about my decision to move.
I was chilling in the guest room, after showering, clad in boxers and basketball shorts, laying in bed, shirtless, absently gazing up at the high ceiling.
I was replaying the night in my head, when the door crept open.
“Hey, you hungry?” Jahreiah questioned, as she tipped into the room with food in tow.
Lifting my head, I realized that she was now wearing an oversized football jersey and was carrying a Stanley cup, a platewith sandwiches and chips. Then there were some vanilla Oreos tucked underneath her arm.
I sat up. “You must’ve heard my stomach growling.”
“Nah. I just figured that you was gonna wait until the morning to raid the refrigerator. Not wanting to seem greedy.” She giggled, as she sat on the bed beside me.
Immediately, her sweet scent enticed my senses. I could tell that she’d just bathed, as she smelt like a mixture of fruits.
“Nah, I just didn’t feel like making nothing this late, cause Jahrae said that nobody cooked tonight.” I eyed the two croissant sandwiches on the plate. “But yo, what’s on the sandwiches?”
“Honey baked ham, bacon, Swiss cheese, American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions.”
“Damn.” My mouth watered. “You made that?”
“Nope. The chef prepared a whole tray of these. My mama is gonna always have something specific for us to eat for dinner. Even when she doesn’t cook.”
“Oh, word,” I grumbled, as I grabbed a sandwich off the plate.
Gazing down, I grabbed a bag of the jalapeño honey barbecue Rap Snack potato chips. Then I wasted no time going in.
“Damn, yo. This shit is pressure,” I spoke between chews.
She nodded, while now chewing a piece of sandwich herself. “It is.”
While eating, I quietly studied her. She’d pulled her hair into a bun at the crown of her head. I peeped the soft textureof hair at the nape of her neck. I watched her she naturally ate cutely…then I thought about my pops.
Pops was married to Jahreiah’s cousin, and had openly expressed his adoration for Trinity a million times over. In fact, he was borderline obsessed with her…and my moms was too. I’d lost count of all the times I’d caught her lurking on Trinity’s socials. She was nearly green with envy as she’d often joke that since Trinity had access to so many famous people through her family, that she’d one day leave my pops for a richer man. I didn’t buy into that theory because I knew that Trinity genuinely loved my pops. Yet, I also understood why my moms could think such a thing.
Trinity was beautiful on a different grading scale…and so were most of the women in her family. Especially Raven and her tribe…and Jahreiah was a part of that tribe. The pretty hair, sexy bodies, gorgeous face mafuckas. And sometimes I found myself still deep in infatuation, even after dealing with her for years.
“You know, this kinda surreal,” she randomly stated.
“What’s that?”
“You being here outside of the summer or a holiday.”
“I know, right.” I had to agree.
