“You are going to be sober before we go down there, right?” I asked, silent prayers going up that he would. I didn’t want to be on a plane with him if he made a scene. That wasn’t part of the plan. I need to focus on Sianni, and I didn’t have time to baby him while he was drunk as fuck.

“Yeah, I’m going to take a shower, then take me a little nap, and then we can be out,” Marvin mumbled, his voice still thick and heavy from the liquor.

“Okay, but how long do you think this nap is going to take?” I asked, trying to keep the attitude out of my voice. I didn't want to waste no kind of time waiting for him to sleep off a hangover. Iwanted to get down there and see how everything was unfolding with my own two eyes.

I finished up in the bathroom and stepped aside as Marvin brushed past me with a handful of clothes. While I waited for him to do his thing, my phone lit up on the nightstand, vibrating against the wood.

It was an Instagram notification from Marissa. I instantly rolled my eyes. She was another one I couldn't stand to be bothered with, but I had to keep her close. She was too informative when it came to this whole plot to take Sianni’s ass down.

Marissa:Hey, girl.

Me:Wassup?

Marissa:Have you seen the news? Kyrie getting shot is all over the news.

Me:Yeah, I saw it. And Sianni’s ass is over there, damn near having a breakdown.

Marissa:I guess, but I’m going to try to see if I can go up there to see him.

Me:You can try. She is up there with him.

Marissa:And I don’t give a fuck.

Me:Okay, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Marissa:Whatever, but are we still going to try to get her ass out of the way?

Me:Yeah, that’s my whole plan.

Marissa:Good, because the quicker we get her gone, the quicker I can get my man back.

Me:Lol…

I tossed the phone back down, a dry laugh catching in my throat. The fact that this hoe was delusional as hell was funny to me. She really sat there and typed that like Kyrie was her fucking man. It was pathetic, but as long as her crazy ass stayed focusedon the goal, I’d let her believe whatever she wanted. All I cared about was watching Sianni lose it all.

The room was quiet, and the only sound was the hum of the machines and the soft rise and fall of Kyrie’s chest. The sound was the only thing keeping me grounded.

My phone buzzed in my hand, the vibration cutting straight through the silence. My eyes dropped to the screen, and my stomach tightened instantly.

It was Lex, and I stared at her name.

We hadn’t talked in a minute, and honestly, I was cool with that. Every time she called, it was the same shit. Her trying to push me back toward her brother, like I ain’t already decided.

Like I ain’t already seen enough, finding out he got another bitch pregnant. Yeah, that did it for me. I swallowed hard, my jaw tightening as the memories tried to creep in. I gave that man pieces of me I couldn’t get back. My time. My energy and my loyalty. All for him to play in my face.

He used to complain about us not having sex but never stopped to think that maybe I was exhausted. I was out here working, pulling long hours, stressing over bills, and making sure we had somewhere to live and something to eat. I was holding us down.

Meanwhile, he was building a whole new life behind my back.

I let out a slow breath and finally answered the phone. I kept it short with her. She asked how I was doing, if I was okay, and all that shit.

As soon as the call ended, I tossed my phone aside and grabbed the thin hospital blanket, shaking it out before curling up on the small couch beside Kyrie’s bed. My eyes flicked toward the door.

Security was posted up heavy outside. You’d think the president was in here the way Kyrie’s agent had it set up. But after tonight, I understood.

I pulled the blanket up to my chin, my gaze drifting back to him. The ring on my finger caught the light, and for a moment, I stared at it. My life had changed overnight.

My past was messy as hell, but this was different. I wasn’t dealing with any more half-ass love. No more broken promises, and no more settling.
