“Okay, cool. I’m finna go take a nap,” she added, heading toward the stairs.

I watched her go, my eyes following her all the way up until she disappeared into one of the rooms.

The second I heard the door close, I reached into my purse and pulled out my phone, turning the camera on as I started walking around. I moved slowly, making sure I got everything, the layout, the furniture, all of it.

I had just gotten into it when my phone was suddenly snatched out of my hand. I spun around and saw Kyrie.

“Yo, what the fuck you doing?” he asked, his voice low but tight.

My eyes widened slightly, lips parting. “Nothing.”

“Then why the fuck you recording my house?” he snapped, stepping a little closer.

“I don’t know,” I said, giving a small shrug, but my voice didn’t even sound convincing to me.

Truth be told, I was caught off guard. And for the first time since I was in that house, I wasn’t as confident as I had been.

“Yo, Marvin, get this hoe the fuck out my house before I beat her ass,” Kyrie said, staring down at me.

He didn’t raise his voice, but the way he looked at me let me know he wasn’t playing. Not even a little.

“Bet,” Marvin replied.

My head snapped toward him. “Wait, what?”

But he was already moving as if that were the law. Of course, that was his cousin, and Marvin wasn’t about to go against him. That’s just how he was.

“Kyrie—”

I followed him, watching as he walked outside without saying a word. Then, without hesitation, he pulled his arm back and threw my phone straight into the pool.

Splash!

My mouth flew open. “Nigga, are you fucking crazy!”

He slowly turned back toward me. “Yeah,” he said calmly. “Now get the fuck out.”

I stood there for a second, my chest tight, heat rushing up my neck. I wanted to say something; I really did, but instead, I just scoffed, shaking my head like I wasn’t bothered. But I was. And the crazy part was, it wasn’t just anger.

The way he moved, the way he didn’t hesitate, didn’t explain, and didn’t give a fuck, did something to me. And I hated that it did.

“Come on,” Marvin muttered, brushing past me.

I shot Kyrie one last look before turning and heading out with him. The ride back to the hotel was quiet at first but didn’t stay that way for long.

“What the fuck was you thinking?” Marvin asked, glancing over at me.

“What do you mean?” I replied, leaning back in my seat.

“Why the fuck were you recording in my cousin’s house?”

“Because I wanted to use it as goals,” I said, shrugging like it wasn’t a big deal.

“Man, you could’ve gone on Pinterest and found some shit,” he said, shaking his head.

My head snapped toward him. “Excuse you?”

“You heard me,” he replied, his tone dropping. “You in there recording like shit sweet, like ain’t nobody just tried to take him out.”
