Because while Roo is a threat to the general population, she isn’t a threat to us.
She’s a fact.
An in-law whose company you grow to enjoy.
Kieran is at the computer desk, one screen devoted to security footage, while another displays Roo’s digital footprint, as if he might use it against her in front of her.
“Spoiler,” I whisper to him. “That won’t work.”
“Let me have my fun,” he tells me.
I watch him try anyway, eyes flicking between code and Eris like he’s triangulating something he doesn’t fully understand yet. Every time our girl laughs, his focus slips. Every time Roo leans in close, his jaw tightens, assessing how far he’ll go for Eris’s best friend.
“Are you sure this place is safe?” Silas asks, voice tight, eyes on Eris instead of the rag. “At this point, I think we could go to the library, and he’d follow you there.”
Roo snorts. “It’s not safe, but it’s mine.”
I’m not sure if knowing she owns the bar makes this any better.
The girls continue getting ready, unfazed by the men orbiting them. Eris catches my stare once, just a flicker, and gives me a smile that promises nothing short of ruin.
Not flirtation.
Devastating intent.
I swallow a groan and shift on the couch, fighting the urge to snatch her from the murderous Russian and lock her in the bedroom.
“You good?” Silas asks, studying the superficial stab wound on his arm.
“Nope.” I shake my head. “Not even a little.”
“Same,” he mutters, frowning at the hole in his skin. “I should probably glue this back together before we leave.”
Kieran’s chair creaks, catching our attention. “You’re both idiots.”
“I’m bleeding,” Silas reminds him.
“You’re lucky,” Kieran replies with a grin. “She warned you first.”
Eris reaches for her drink and gives Roo a look. “Can we not stab anyone other than Daniel tonight?”
“No promises,” Roo says, taking Eris’s place on the stool and dragging a small brush across her own lips. “But I’ll try not to ruin your date.”
“It’s not a date,” Eris tells her, exasperation thick in her tone.
I don’t believe her.
Roo, I mean.
Neither does Kieran.
And Silas just groans, standing up to go replace the rag with super glue and a pre-game shot of vodka. “We’re all going to hell. Might as well let her have her fun, too.”
I lean my head back against the couch, watching the two most dangerous women I’ve ever met finish getting ready like they’re about to go out partying instead of hunting.
“Worth it,” the girls whisper to each other.
Yep.
If hell is real, they’re definitely going.
And I’m following Eris.
Even if I have to burn the world down to secure my place by her side.
