“Shit.” He huffed out a breath. “You’re too good for me.”
“I’m not some delicate flower, Cole.”
He looked over my head, some sort of battle going on in his head.
“No one’s ever thought I was too good before.”
His blue gaze cut back to me.
“At school, I was the awkward girl, with no mom and a boxer for a dad. I wasn’t a cheerleader, I wasn’t a geek, I wasn’t into band or sports. I didn’t fit anywhere.”
His big, calloused hand cupped my jaw. “You’re beautiful, and kind, and hardworking.”
Warmth bloomed in my chest. “No one’s ever thought that.” I laughed. “Not even me.”
He shook his head, and I felt him getting ready to step back. “Look, I think?—”
“I’ve never had an orgasm.”
He turned into a statue. His face was unreadable, his eyes boring into mine.
“With a guy. I mean, I have by myself, but I’m not sure if I get it exactly right. I mean, it never seems to be worth all the fuss that I’ve read about. I don’t hear glorious music or feel the need to scream.”
He just kept staring at me, and I started to think I’d misstepped sharing this with him.God, the man doesn’t care about your orgasms, Lili.
I dropped my gaze to the floor. “Never mind. It doesn’t matter.”
It was time to accept that Cole Black was just another thing on the long list of things I’d never get.

Icouldn’t look away from Lili’s pretty face.
I watched her bite her lip and look away. But not before I saw the resigned disappointment on her features.
No one’s ever thought I’m too good before.
All my life, I’ve rarely gotten what I wanted.
I’ve never had an orgasm. With a guy.
Her words ricocheted around in my head like high-velocity bullets.
Fuck, Lili deserved everything she ever wanted. And I never wanted to be the person putting that fucking dejected look on her face.
“Let’s forget I said anything.” She pinned on the brightest, fakest smile I’d seen, and pushed against my chest. “If you’re finished, we’d better get back to the casino.”
“I’m not finished.”
“Oh, okay, well, do you?—”
I curled my hands around her slim shoulders and she stilled. Her gaze roamed my face and her lips parted.
Fuck, I was going to go to hell for this.
I lowered my head and kissed her.
