Because Cole had come inside me.

I gripped the skirt of my dress and shifted on my feet.

Of course, Cole read me like a book.

“Stay there.” He went to his duffel bag and returned with a pack of wet wipes. He pulled one out, then knelt at my feet.

My heart skipped a beat. For a second, his image wavered and I saw him as a knight, covered in the gore of battle, kneeling before his queen.

He pushed the skirt of my dress up and wiped between my thighs.

“Didn’t use a rubber. You on the Pill?”

I shook my head and bit my lip.

“Landon can sort that out for you. If you want.”

I nodded. “It’s not the right part of my cycle, so I don’t think we need to worry.”

He lifted his chin. “I should have taken care of you.”

I smiled. “You did. There wasno waywhat we just did wasn’t happening.”

He rose and cupped my chin. “If you get pregnant, I’ll take care of you.”

I fought back a tremble. I wish he meant that in other ways. That he wanted to take care of me…forever. “I know.”

“I’m clean. Haven’t fucked anyone since my last physical.”

“I am too.”

His thumb ran over my lips. “Damn, I want to fuck you again.”

That gave me a giddy thrill. I really wanted that too. “Then let’s get out of here.”

With a nod, he pulled on a long-sleeved Henley and a pair of jeans, then packed the rest of his gear. He slung the duffel bag over one shoulder.

“Thanks for fighting Anton for me.”

“It was my pleasure, sunshine. In more ways than one.” He slipped his other arm across my shoulders. “The next time I have my cock inside you, it’s going to be slow, Lili.”

My heart did a little jump. “I can get onboard with that.”

It was weird that even with my life in chaos, I felt the happiest I’d ever been.

CHAPTER 18

COLE

Ihustled Lili out the door of the warehouse and into the alley. Bastian’s Range Rovers were parked nearby. I wanted her out of here, fast.

Landon and Nash stood beside the lead SUV. Nash raised a hand and opened the back door of one SUV. I saw Georgie and Lark inside.

“Lili!” a deep voice yelled.

I felt her stiffen, and I glanced back over my shoulder. And saw Brock Armstrong hustling our way.

“Landon,” I growled.
