He found many.
And didn’t stop until she was bucking against his hand and calling out his name.
“You stay here, and I’ll go get the champagne,” he whispered in her ear as she finally caught her breath and recovered from the shudders racking her body.
She turned and snuggled against him like a little cat, rubbing his chest with her nose. He loved to see her so sated and happy like this.
And the weekend was just getting started.
“No,” she whispered. “I’ll get it. I know you wanted to shower. You get going on that, and be ready when I get back with the champagne.” She slipped away from him. “You better hurry, because if you’re not done, I’m going to have to join you in there.”
He pulled her in for a quick kiss. “You’re going to have to work on your threatening skills.”
“Oh yeah?” she asked. “Then how about this as a threat?”
He nearly swallowed his tongue as she whispered some of the things she planned to do to him once they were both naked.
“But I need a couple of sips of champagne first,” she finished with a smile.
“Good gravy, woman. Hurry up and get that champagne.”
The sound of her laugh as she ran toward the door ranked right up there with his favorite things on the planet.
He made a beeline for the shower, because although he wouldn’t mind her joining him in there, that could wait. The first time they made love, he wanted it to be in a bed, where he could take his time.
For just a second, he had a moment’s pause. Their first time really should’ve been in his bed back at the ranch—where everything started for them. But he shook it off. There would be plenty of time to make love to her there, too.
He was out of the shower five minutes later and slipping on the sleep pants he’d brought but had no plans to be sleeping in and walked back into the bedroom. No Bree.
It was only after another ten minutes had passed that he began to get concerned.
He picked up the phone on the bedside table and dialed the front desk. “Did anybody come by yet to pick up the bottle of champagne left for the Dempsey party?”
He could hear papers shuffling around before the woman at the front desk answered. “I’m sorry, sir. I just arrived for my shift. Can you give me just a moment and I’ll call you right back with an update?”
“Sure.” He hung up.
Had Bree gotten lost on the path to the front desk? It was a pretty straight shot, but she had been known to get distracted by things. He wasn’t worried, but he’d just go look for her. He slipped on a shirt and pair of shoes.
He saw the envelope as soon as he came out of the bedroom. The bloodred color of it was almost garish against the snowy white of the rug it lay on. Tanner tore it open.
Bungalow 42. I have a surprise for you.
What the hell? What in the world had Bree done? Had she figured out where he was going to take her—not that that would be difficult for her, since he’d put the reservation on his credit card—and had planned something of her own?
This woman kept him on his toes, that was for sure.
Ironically, bungalow 42 was the one he’d wanted. It was the most isolated, with the very best view. But it had already been booked.
Tanner smiled. Looked like now he was going to get it anyway.
He slipped out the door. Of course, if Bree had hacked his credit card account, they were going to have to have a long talk.
But first they were going to have a long timenot talking.
He half jogged to the outskirts of the property, smiling the entire time. His grin grew bigger when he saw the door was cracked open and candles lit inside. Who would’ve thought Bree would have her own romantic side.
He pushed the door open. “Freckles, you are in so much trouble. I’m going to show you how to—”
