“Were you able to get a message to your father’s driver so he would not have to wait for you?”
She nodded vigorously. “I messaged him as soon as we left the room after signing the papers. I will call the staff with the address as soon as we arrive home.”
The way she saidhometugged something at me that I couldn’t pinpoint. I brushed it off, turning to her, and forcing a smile.
“Ready to go?”
She looked happy, making me question how her father would respond when he found out I was her blood match.
We drove through a few neighborhoods within the mid blood born section of town before we arrived to my house. It was nothing fancy, but it was comfortable and mine. I was proud of my progress over the years and felt I had damned well earned my place in the vampyr society. I did not want to be a part of the high blood borns, their arrogance and entitlement dug at me the wrong way. As I pulled into the driveway, Dreya leaned in, looking through the windshield to view the house. She appeared to be in awe, which threw me off. I couldn’t understand her reaction.
I got out and went to her side to open the door for her. She continued to stare at my house as she got out of the car.
“Oh, this looks nice.”
I just nodded and laid my hand softly on her back, making her jolt. Her head whipped to be, shocked, then flustered. “Sorry. I….I...just …..wasn’t expecting….that.” She looked away, embarrassed.
I slowly placed my hand back on her back, waited for her to settle in, then guided her to the front door.
I heard her breath out, “I love it” just as the front door opened to my maid, Miss Sophie.
I had to figure out my blood wife. She was a mystery I hadn’t expected.
Chapter 4
Odessa’s POV
Onyx’s home was much smaller than the estate, and I absolutely loved it! It felt comfortable and cozy. No extra space that was unnecessary, no cold atmosphere. This felt like…..home. I couldn’t stop smiling, looking around the living room area. The living room consisted of warm, brown colors. A couch and two chairs that matched the couch sat around facing a fireplace. A coffee table made out of mahogany sat in front of it with coasters set in the middle. The kitchen was smaller than the one at home, and again I felt the warmth coming from the room as I met Miss Sophie and Gene more formally. She was polite, not overly engaging, but I didn’t expect much. I could work on that. And Gene was quiet and reserved, but also polite. I already felt at ease here.
Onyx showed me around the house, and as we ended in the master bedroom, making me nervous, he showed me the area that would be mine to use. It looked like the perfect amount of space. I had been given an allowance since I turned 12 years old that I had never touched. I would have plenty of money to buy new clothes for myself. A new life called for a new wardrobe.
Onyx had to return to work for a couple of hours so I used the time to get to know Miss Sophie and Gene a little better until my belongings arrived.
Gene helped Bernard and two other staff bring my things in. I had about three suitcases and four boxes. That was it. That was all I wanted or needed from my old life. I thanked Bernardand the staff, telling them goodbye. I suspected I would not be seeing them again any time soon. I called Mother, out of respect.
“Mother, hi. I just wanted to let you know, you and Mr. D’Avare no longer have to worry about me. I have found my blood match and have moved in with him.”
My mother, in her overly anxious voice, asked, “What? Who is he? Why didn’t you tell me earlier? Your father will be very angry that you left the house without his permission.”
I gritted my teeth momentarily, but responded back, “I am sure Mr. D’Avare will be very happy to have me out of his home so he can focus on much more important matters, Mother. But I wish you well, and will see you again.”
I hung up before she could push any more of her anxiety on to me. She would be left alone with her blood husband. That was no longer any of my concern. I felt an overwhelming sense of relief at being away from those people. Yes, I was both anxious and excited about being around new people, but I had to believe it was far better than the people that had been in my life up to this point.
I used the time that Onyx was gone to unpack what I could, mostly the clothes, until I could determine where to put my other belongings, mainly books. I loved to read. Something I had ample time to do when living practically alone in a huge estate.
I sat with one of my books in the living room area on the super comfy couch, enjoying some tea. I had offered to make my own tea if Miss Sophie would show me where the items were and how to do this for myself. She had appeared surprised by my request, but had been more than willing to show me.
Just as dinner was ready to be served, Onyx returned.
We sat at the small dinner table together, feeling even more intimate than I had ever experienced. At Mr. D’Avare and Mother’s house, dinner was formal yet minimal. Mother andI usually ate together atthe long dinner table for eight. Occasionally, Mr. D’Avare had guests over for dinner, then would meet privately with them afterwards. A couple would occasionally stay overnight. I was expected to remain in my room immediately after dinner.
Dinner was quiet, although I did attempt light conversation about the work day. My blood husband appeared a bit put out by my questions, so I kept them to myself as dinner progressed. Miss Sophie had made a stew, something I had never had before and it had been filling and delicious. I had been sure to let her know I had enjoyed the meal. She seemed surprised by my response, but I hoped she knew I appreciated her hard work.
Once we finished dinner, Onyx went back to his office to “do some more work.” My heart had sunk, but I had to remember he had worked his way up from a low blood born status, so I was sure he had to work harder than most.
By 10 p.m. and no word from my blood husband, I finally went up to bed. Alone. I had changed into a silky nightgown that came to mid thigh. A little high for my liking, but I was hoping my husband would take me tonight. Not just for the blood taking, but my virginity as well.
I had been very sheltered to the point that Mr. D’Avare insisted I stay “clean and pure.” He believed it would make him look more prestigious somehow, by having a virgin daughter. Would my husband appreciate being the one to take my virginity? In some of the human books I read, the men felt like Alpha males being the first man to be with their woman. Would Onyx be the same? Or would he be disappointed that I was inexperienced? Hopefully, he would be open to teaching me.
