“That it was,” Charles said. “I daresay Ellie invited every member of Society.”

Roswell chuckled. “She wanted everyone to celebrate our union.”

“It has been nearly a month since your wedding,” Charles remarked.

“That it has.”

Charles eyed him curiously. “Any regrets?”

“None,” Roswell said. “Ellie completes me in a way that I never knew was possible.”

“That is rather a sappy sentiment, brother,” Charles teased.

Roswell grinned. “For the first time in my life, I am content,” he said. “And it is all because of Ellie.”

“Then I suppose I should get a wife.”

“I highly recommend it.”

Charles had just started eating his food when his sister walked into the room with a smile on her face. “Good morning,” she greeted.

He swallowed his bite of food. “Good morning, Emma,” he responded. “I see that you are in a pleasant mood.”

“I am.”

“Would you care to share why?”

“I would, but first I need some chocolate.” She gestured towards a footman as she came to sit down across from him. “Today the Royal British Bowman archery society is meeting, and we are having a competition.”

“Is that so?” Charles asked.

Emma bobbed her head eagerly. “Last time we had a competition, I came in second to Lord Preston, and I hope to rectify that situation this time.”

“Coming in second is nothing to balk at,” Roswell said. “You are competing against impressive archers, and you are only a wo…”

Emma narrowed her eyes. “Please finish that sentence, brother.”

Roswell cleared his throat. “I am a smart enough man to stop while I am ahead.”

“Regardless, I intend to win the competition today,” Emma said, reaching for the cup of chocolate a footman had just placed in front of her. “I refuse to let Lord Preston win again.”

Charles smiled at his sister. “I have no doubt that you are capable of doing so.”

“Thank you,” Emma said before she took a sip of her drink. “What were you discussing before I stepped into the room?”

Roswell smirked. “Charles has decided it is time to take a wife.”

“Riveting,” Emma responded. “Who is the lucky young lady?”

“I haven’t decided,” Charles admitted.

Emma placed the cup back down on the saucer. “You could always go speak to Lady Berkshire and her sisters.”

Charles shifted uncomfortably in his seat. “I thought of that, but I think it might be awkward if Lady Egleton helps me find a wife, especially since I offered for her.”

“That is all in the past,” Emma stated. “She has been married to Lord Egleton for over a year now.”

“That is true, but I would prefer to find my own wife.”
