One of the men interjected, “He usually is.”

Lord William’s eyes narrowed at the man who’d just spoken. “And your life is so perfect, John,” he taunted. “You come here to escape that whore of a wife.”

John shoved back his chair and shouted, “You will not speak of my wife that way!”

“I will speak of her however I want, and there is nothing you can do about it,” Lord William spat out.

Greydon knew he’d better intercede or else things would end badly. He rose and reached for Lord William’s arm. “You are out of line.”

“No,heis out of line,” Lord William said, yanking back his arm. “John knows the type of woman he married. She shares it with everyone but him.”

John came around the table and Greydon stepped in front of him. “Leave him be,” he ordered.

“Why would I do that?” John asked.

Greydon knew this wasn’t his fight but he needed to ask Lord William a few questions before he engaged in fisticuffs. “He has had too much to drink and he doesn’t know what he is saying.”

Lord William spoke up. “I know what I am saying, and I meant every word,” he taunted.

John tried to push him out of the way, but Greydon remained rooted in his spot. It was going to take a lot more than that to move him. “Just walk away while you still can,” he advised.

Lord William rose and put his fists up in the air. “You are lucky that Greydon is here or else I would have beaten you to a bloody pulp.”

Why couldn’t Lord William just be quiet? He kept trying to escalate the situation and he was in no position to fight.

John stared daggers at Lord William. “Your friend won’t always be around to protect you, my lord,” he growled.

“I don’t need him; I don’t need anyone,” Lord William declared as he started swaying on his feet. “I can fight my own battles.”

The guard from the main door approached them and asked, “Is there a problem, gentlemen?”

Lord William pointed towards John. “He is no gentleman, but I am. I am more of a gentleman than anyone else in this room.”

The guard frowned. “I think it is time for you to go,” he said. “You are drunk and are stirring up problems.”

“No,youare stirring up problems!” Lord William exclaimed. “I was just sitting here, minding my own business.”

“I doubt that,” the guard said. “Come along.”

Lord William puffed out his chest. “You can’t remove me from here. Do you know who I am?” he demanded.

“I do, and I don’t care,” the guard replied.

Greydon turned towards Lord William. “It is best if you walk out of here, rather than be dragged out.”

“Fine,” Lord William shouted with a wave of his hand. “I was going to leave anyways. I have had enough of this paltry place.”

John walked back to his seat and muttered, “Good riddance.”

“What did you say?” Lord William asked.

With a lifted brow, the man repeated his words slowly. “I said ‘good riddance’.”

Lord William scoffed. “You are inconsequential to me. You are a nobody and you will die a nobody.”

Greydon grabbed Lord William’s arm. “Let’s go.” He had just about enough of Lord William’s pretentious attitude. He had no doubt that Lord William needed a comeuppance, but it wouldn’t be today. Not with him.

Lord William tried to yank back his arm, but Greydon held firm as he led the man towards the door.
