“Ican’tfindshiton this guy,” Serina muttered under her breath, fingers flying over the keyboard at lightning speed while Courtney made her twelfth lap around the living room. I rested my elbows on my knees, staring at the carpet.

My ears were still ringing from her scream the day before, those lilac eyes oozing fiery vengeance. She’d immediately texted Serina for help locating her father, but the siren had forgotten her phone in the dorm, flustered by Jack asking her out. When they returned later that night, whispering and disappearing into the bedroom, Courtney resolved to deal with it in the morning.

“He must’ve changed his name, because Dr. Thomas Whitewood doesn’t exist anymore,” Serina sighed and shoved the computer from her lap. Thumbnail in her teeth, Courtney paused her pacing.

“He was a neurosurgeon-” I cut myself off as Courtney whipped around, penetrating gaze burning into me.

“Go on,” she said.

My angel rejected Heaven’s gates, endured immeasurable pain, and conquered the lifelong fear of confronting her mother. She blessed me with the honor of belonging to her and I’d obey her commands even if I feared hurting her. She could handle it- she could handle anything.

“Do you think he was involved in creating the trial?”

She tilted her head, eyes turning introspective.

Serina grabbed her laptop again. “I think I saw something about him having his own practice.”

Courtney sighed. “The only things I know about him are vague bits and pieces from my mom. She always said he worked too much, he hid his finances from her, he lied to her. She loved to talk about how he went bankrupt in the divorce.”

“But the divorce wasn’t until a year after you were born. Merit would need legitimate doctors working with them. The timeline would fit,” I insisted. She crossed the room to me, hooking my chin with her finger.

“I wouldn’t change any of us, or the course of my life that brought me to you, but if this man is involved in the attempts to reclaim us- you in particular- I will rip his fucking heart out with my bare hands.”

My lips parted, my cock instantly steel.

“Vicious little thing,” I whispered.

Her thumbnail pressed into my lower lip.

Serina cleared her throat.

I blinked out of Courtney’s hypnotic spell, shifting to relieve the pressure of my jeans on my aching dick. Serina’s blush deepened as Courtney slid her fingers through my hair.

Distracting woman.

“It may take me a bit to sort through all the records, but I should be able to see if his old practice was connected to any labs in the area or the hospitals where we were born.”

Courtney gave her an approving nod. “Brilliant.”

Serina beamed.

The door to the dorm burst inward followed by an obnoxious whoop.

Wearing a sombrero and a pair of extra short swim trunks covered in pineapples, Jack blew into the room with his twin in tow. The enormous sunglasses perched on Miranda’s nose covered half her face, pouty lips curled in a sassy smirk as she shoved past Jack holding two overfilled plastic bags. She dropped them on the coffee table in front of us.

“Get changed, slugs, we’ve got a pool party to attend,” Miranda said, pulling bottles of expensive vodka from one of the bags.

“Seriously?” I snapped. “We kind of have more important shit to deal with right now.”

Jack spread his arms wide, “Ah, that’s where you’re wrong my friend.” He grinned. Courtney and I exchanged a skeptical glance. Jack let out an exaggerated sigh. “I was going to surprise you, but I see I have no other choice.”

I leaned back on the couch, crossing my arms over my chest.

“What my dramatic brother is trying to say is you all need to get the hell out of this dorm for a few hours or you might spontaneously combust and burn the whole building down,” Miranda huffed, chucking a Ziplock baggie at me. I caught it with a flash of my eyes, plucking it from thin air.
