Paige studies my face. I hate when she does that.
“You sure you’re okay with that?” She’s almost a little too in my face when she speaks.
I shrug. “She can watch the Olympics if she wants.”
Riley starts playing with her fingernails as she closes her eyes, a sure sign she’s about to say something else.
“I don’t like it,” is all that comes from her mouth.
I let out a short sigh of relief. As much as we make fun of Riley, she’s known to be on point with almost everything she says.
Spooky, if you ask me.
Paige snorts. “Oh no. Not the psychic vibes again.”
“I’m serious,” Riley insists. “I’ve got a bad feeling about something.”
I raise my eyebrow. “You always have a bad feeling about something.”
“That’s not true. A lot of my gift is positive vibes. I can’t help it when something dark shows itself to me.”
The way she says this makes me want to laugh. I know she’s being serious, but she sounds like a poorly paid actress from a low-budget film.
“Relax, Mystic Meg.” Paige waves her off.
But something in my stomach twists anyway as Riley speaks. “I don’t normally get feelings this bad.”
And she’s probably right. Most of the time when she has visions,it’s because her favorite ice cream flavor is out of stock at the local creamery, or the dress she’s going to buy won’t be in her size.
This time is different, though. Riley says something bad is coming, and I can’t help thinking it already has.It just hasn’t for anyone else in this room because they’re not privy to what I know now.
I push myself up from the couch, feeling the need to get to Violet and make sure she’s okay. I need to talk to her, and we need to figure this thing out. I know last night wasn’t the best time to hash out the details; she’s a busy woman, being a famous singer and all that.
Everyone knows her.
But it’s me. It’s Skye and Violet. And although I haven’t had her in my life for very long, I don’t plan on this thing between us ending anytime soon.
That does not mean, however, that she’s getting out of this without some kind of punishment.
She’s going to work for every inch of trust she’s burned.
Chapter Twenty-One
Violet
Morning light is pouring in through the gaps in the hotel curtains.
I didn’t sleep.
I’m still wearing last night’s hoodie, sitting cross-legged on the edge of the bed with my elbows on my knees, staring at the small box in front of me.
My phone replacement.
Delivered twenty minutes ago by hotel staff who were nice enough to offer complimentary room service.
Thankfully, I’m not hurting financially and still get the benefits of being treated like royalty, even though I’m not here as Solace or the girlfriend of an Olympic hockey player.
If only I could wear that title because of Skye and not because of Theo.
