“I’m ordering dinner,” Tripp said as he grabbed his discarded phone. “Anything specific you want?”

Well…

Okay then.

It wasn’t untilafter a dinner of too much Pho, half a movie, and a lot of maddening touches that a thought occurred to me.

I hit pause just as the morally gray good guy walked in on the unwitting antagonist and sat up.

Or sat up as best as I could with Tripp’s thumb in me.

His skin is going to prune.

Not that I’m complaining.

His alert eyes moved to see what I needed.

“I told you I was leaving for my mom’s this afternoon. How did you know I was here?”

“How did I know you lied to me, you mean?”

“I didn’t lie. She decided to take a last-minute trip.” Realizing how that sounded—and strangely caring a lot about his opinionof my lone good parent—I cut in before the mix of ire and pity could fully settle on his handsome face. “She wanted me to go with her, but I said no.”

“Because you’d miss me too much.”

“No,” I answered, even though it wasn’t a question. It also wasn’t untrue. “I didn’t want to miss work.”

His smirk grew even cockier still. “Yeah, you would’ve missed me.”

“Whatever. You would’ve missed me, too,” I shot back.

The humor died on his face. “No. I wouldn’t have.”

Fucking ouch.

But before the hurt could fully take root, he shrugged and lost his hold on the smile he was suppressing. “Because my ass would’ve been on the first flight out to follow you.”

My belly swooped as my body melted, like the warmth of the Pho had infused my veins.

I still rolled my eyes at him. “You didn’t answer my question.”

“I followed your example.” At my confusion, he explained. “I tracked you.”

Oh. Yeah. I guess the app does work both ways.

Oops.

That didn’t stop my brows from lowering. “Why?”

He yanked me closer until I had no choice but to straddle him. “If you thought you could send those messages, and I wouldn’t hunt you down, you haven’t been paying attention.”

TRIPP

“It’s not too late toleave,” I muttered as I wrapped an arm around Greer’s waist to pull her to me. “We’ll order Chinese, and I’ll eat you while we wait for it to be delivered.”
