CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE

CORRECTION. IT’S HOT, AND IT’S MESSY

TRIPP

Idid my time. Playednice. Said all the right things.

I’m finding Greer and getting the hell out of here so I can get into her as my reward.

After Tony insisted I follow him around to meet every damn director and producer at the party, I’d gone into a bathroom tucked away from the party. My last thought about Greer almost fucked up my aim as I tried to finish taking a piss before my dick could fully harden. It was a close one.

Grimacing, I tucked it away at a painful angle before righting my suit. I washed my hands and exited the bathroom into the small sitting room outside. My steps slowed to a stop.

Ah shit.

I was no longer alone.

A blonde stood, her expectant gaze aimed at me without a flicker of surprise at the interruption. She held the hair of the redhead kneeling at her feet so her friend could snort the thin line of coke on the table in front of her.

Once she was done, she wiggled her nose and smiled at me. “You looked bored out there, handsome.”

I was, but only because I would rather be alone with Greer.

Knowing how to handle a gentle rejection, I forced a smile I didn’t feel. “Nah, it’s a great party. We should all get back out to it.”

“Why do that when we can have our own party in here?” the blonde said, tugging the redhead’s hair.

“It’d be way more fun.” The redhead’s hands skimmed up the blonde’s bare leg until it was under her short skirt. “We can even make it quick if you want.”

They were both attractive in the usual LA way. If it were a couple months prior, I might’ve taken them up on the offer. But that was before Greer.

Nameless, emotional hookups had lost their appeal. I liked being able to look at myself in the mirror. I liked the fact that it wasn’t regret and disgust that filled the emptiness in my gut after I came. It was the kind of happiness I didn’t know was possible.

And it wasn’t just my brain that was against a hookup. My body was on the same page. Dealing with them even momentarily was enough to shrivel my hard-on.

“I’m opening the door,” I warned, dropping all pretense of friendliness. If they wanted to blast me for the rejection, they could have at it.

They misinterpreted my warning as me wanting them to come on stronger. Which they happily did, offering more bullshit I wasn’t paying attention to. When they finally realized I wasn’t fishing for a naughty incentive to stay and was literally openingthe door they’d locked after them, the redhead hurried to hide the baggy of blow.

Hurried, and failed since it spread across the table in a comical puff of white.

It was a dick move, but I laughed as I opened the door.

And then my laughter died in my damn throat when a startled Greer stopped short. Her wide eyes moved from my smiling face to the two women behind me who were still positioned like they were shooting a softcore porno. And then her gaze very obviously dropped to the front of my pants, making me grateful she hadn’t come in earlier when my thoughts had been on her.

“Shit,” I muttered. It was probably the stupidest fucking thing that could’ve come out of my mouth since it made me seem guilty when I wasn’t. I hadn’t even been tempted.

But I knew how it looked. That Greer had trust issues. That I had a reputation that was my own doing.

Sure enough, my one word was enough to jolt her from her frozen state. Unlike me, she didn’t hesitate to haul ass down the hallway.

I watched her go, my panic making me immobile as I tried to figure out what to do. I could drag her back and make the women tell her nothing had happened.

But they might lie and say something did happen, launching the situation from bad to shit.

I could give her space, something I dismissed right away since I knew that would bite me in the ass.

Or I could chase after her and tackle her to the damn ground if she tried to leave.
