“I’m sorry I never…”

Blake shakes his head, his gaze melting into mine.

I could stare at him all day.

“We’ve both made mistakes, sweetheart. But I’m not making any more.”

We sit in the car for a long time, our foreheads pressed against the other as I cry silent tears, and he wipes them away wordlessly.

“It was never a fake marriage for me, you know?” Blake whispers suddenly, and I look up at him curiously.

His river-blue eyes twinkle as he strokes my cheek.

“I meant my vows. I meant the kiss.”

“You meant it all?” I ask, unable to believe it after how cold he was after the ceremony.

Blake nods, tilting his head to the side as he continues. “I saw the way you looked at Issac after…” His lips purse together as he grips my chin. “I swore I would make you mine somehow, but I didn’t think I could. I didn’t think you’d ever be mine again, but you felt like you were, you know?”

I understand.

I know.

I loved him from the first time I laid eyes on him, and even though, at times, I’ve hated him, I love him.

“But you are mine. That baby is mine, and that’s the fucking end of it. Your mother can fuck herself, even if she’s right.” Blake smirks.

“Can we go in? I’m tired,” I request in a small voice.

It’s too much for me.

My mother has taken it out of me—literally. Her spiteful words about the baby not being Blake’s have severed any ties I have with her, for sure.

We head into the house, and I stare hungrily at Blake’s broad back, the muscles rippling through his shirt as he tugs it off, turning to me with a dark stare.

“I need a swim. Too much negative energy around me right now.”

He hasn’t asked me to join him, but I get why. He needs to rid himself of my mother’s words.

“Can I watch?” I ask, tilting my head as he pushes his pants down.

“Sure.”

I curl up on the lounger as he dives into the pool, his strong arms slicing through the water as he swims, the movements so fast and fluid I forget I’m watching a real person. He seems almost ethereal, the water shimmering around him as he moves, his head turning from side to side to take a breath before he flips, coming back in my direction. He does this repeatedly as I watch, entranced.

Finally, he comes to a stop at the edge of the pool, panting as he crosses his arms on the side, gazing at me.

“You sure are beautiful,” Blake murmurs, his gaze travelling over me. “Come here, baby.”

I stride over to him, standing before him as he grips my ankles, staring up at me.

“Lower.”

I drop to my knees, but Blake gently moves my feet, so they’re around his shoulders, his smirk telling me he has nothing but dirty intentions.

“I need to eat, Danielle.”

His fingers slide my underwear down, and I suck in a breath as he buries his head between my thighs, his fingers and tongue working my tense core.
