“I am not—”

“I know and it’s a shame. She has such great skin. She could date some really rich guys.” Russell nods before he even starts talking.

“Wow, I don’t even know where to start with that—”

“Aww, I really hoped he came here for me. I thought maybe I won a contest. But I guess he did ask for her pretty quick.”

Danny: “Can you imagine a date withtheJames Roe?”

Russell: “Right? I’d pay money to lick him.”

Me: “Okay that’s—”

Russell: “And those eyebrows.”

Danny: “I’d lick those too.”

Mrs. J: “I’d lick anything on him.”

“Okay.” I shake my head and throw out my hands. “Okay, could we maybe stop? He’s right out there.”

All three sets of eyes flick to me. Three out of three sets look disappointed.

“Have you already pissed him off, Maggie?” Russell asks.

I drop my chin to my chest to show my insult. “I’ll have you know we’re working together.”

“What do you do again?”

“I thought you took care of me for a living?” Mrs. J. looks confused.

“No, Mrs. J., I have a job.”

“Wait, why am I paying you then?”

“You aren’t.”

“Aww, you deserve a raise though.” She pats my face.

“Thanks.”

“How do I not know what she does?” Russell looks to Danny. “Do you know?”

“I thought she was a maid or something.”

“A maid?” Russell is aghast.

Ah, yeah. I know why he thinks that about me. That was a crazy night.

“Yeah, one night she came home in a blue uniform,” Danny says.

Bingo.

“Hey, that’s true. I saw you come home in scrubs once.”

Oh yeah, that too.

“I really thought you were my personal assistant.” Mrs. J. is still talking to herself.
