SUBJECT: THANK YOU!
RC,
Thank you for the delicious treats and the birthday wishes. Pete got to the caramel ones before I could snag one, but he said they were delicious! I had a great birthday, but I think I was a little overly worked up on birthday adrenaline when I emailed you earlier.
I feel silly. I should have waited to tell you about the offer. The more I think about it, the more I’m not sure I can just pick up and go to LA. The timing is a little tough. They didn’t technically invite Pete, and I don’t think I could just leave him behind. We don’t have a lot of extra cash for a second flight. Also, his mom needs him around a lot, I think I told you that. He’s not a great traveler. We have work. I just shouldn’t have rushed into making a decision. I got carried away (what else is new, right?).
Thanks for being happy for me, but I don’t think this is the right time.
Kate
PS: Did you also know that it’s the second anniversary of our first exchange? Happy anniversary, bestie ;p

Kate,
First of all, that wanker is not allowed to touch your treats. I picked every single thing out specifically for you. That is absolute rubbish. And to take the best ones. I swear to bloody hell …
Secondly, Kate, do NOT let that man rain on your parade. You deserve happiness and excitement. You deserve all the best bloody things in the world. How that man wasn’t dropping everything to figure out a way to make it work … And on your bloody birthday. For fuck’s sake. He doesn’t deserve you.
Thirdly, of course, I knew it was the anniversary of our first email exchange. I almost mentioned it ten different times but didn’t want to seem as pathetic as I actually am. I sent you a gift to mark the occasion. Thankfully, your birthday coincides so I don’t look completely mental.
Lastly, I’m getting you to that reunion come hell or high water. Even if it means seeing your stupid bloody boyfriend. I can’t be responsible if I punch him in the face. Fair warning.
Fuck. I can’t send this.

Kate,
It’s okay to be excited. It’s a big deal. If you don’t, you might always regret it. Don’t respond to the invite yet. Give yourself a few days to think about it. You can find a way to make it work. It’s important enough.
RC
PS: Happy anniversary to us.
