“I’m glad you came.” Harrison held up his pint, and we clinked our glasses with his. “I honestly thought it was a lost cause.”

We all took a drink and set down our glasses.

Harrison wiped some foam off his lip. “Should have known Emma would get you. She could convince the Queen to twerk.”

“It’s true.” Emma sipped her wine with a self-assured smile. “But this wasn’t on me. I’d given up when he did a one-eighty.”

She shot me a look, and I swore under my breath.

“Oh really?” Harrison said drawing out the words. “What changed your mind?”

“I knew nobody would watch if it was only you two,” I said dryly, tossing a chip into my mouth.

They laughed, and I used the opportunity to shift focus from myself.

“I thought we’d see Wesley there tonight,” I said innocently.

Harrison’s eyes widened, and he took a long drink watching Emma’s reaction.

Emma shrugged coolly. “I thought he was on the schedule to record this week, but I haven’t seen him, and I don’t care to.”

Harrison winced. “Ouch.”

“It’s not like that,” she defended, her voice rising in pitch. “There’s no bad blood. I just don’t care what he does.”

Harrison scoffed. “You were obsessed with him for our entire TF career. You checked the call sheets every day to see if you’d have a scene with him.”

Emma lifted her chin and rolled her eyes. “I was a child. I got over it. It’s been twenty years, for crying out loud.”

Not for you, I thought but knew better than to say. She’d not stopped loving him until the last few years, and even that I wasn’t entirely convinced of. When he got married, she spent a year in a developing country, completely devoting her life to making potable water available to a single community.

“Anyway, he only ever saw me as a sister,” she added, flicking a crumb off the table.

“I thought you two took each other’s virginities?” Harrison said as if he didn’t fully know.

“Jesus, Harrison, say it louder for the people in the back,” Emma swore, leaning closer.

“It’s sweet,” I said. Then wished I hadn’t.

She scoffed. “You’re such a softy. It was just sex. We wanted to make sure we wouldn’t totally fumble it when we finally did it with other people. Plus, we couldn’t really trust strangers at that point. Our fame was so new. It was just sex,” she added again, and it almost seemed like she was reminding herself.

“I’m just saying, if he really saw you as a sister, that would have never happened. Not in a million years,” Harrison said.

Emma finished her wine in one gulp.

“I heard he’s getting a divorce,” Harrison added casually.

Emma’s head snapped to him. She coughed and wiped at her mouth. “What?”

I scratched at my jaw. “You know. I think I did hear they were separated last year. I can’t remember who told me,” I said.

A blatant lie. It was Kate who told me. It was all the rage on the fansite rumor mill. I hadn’t told Emma because, well, because of the look right there on her face.

A flash of hope before she schooled her features. If Wesley hadn’t made a move in the last ten years, he wouldn’t now. It made me want to find the guy and shake him. I hated to see her heart start to heal and then get all mashed up again. Now I felt bad for moving the focus off me and onto her and Wesley.

“I didn’t see Sedar tonight either,” I said, hoping to pull Emma back from where she was lost in thought.

Emma blinked and said, “The producers said he turned down the invite.”
