All she knew was that whatever was happening, she needed more of it.
A hungry sound tore from Arthur’s throat, and Marissa found out exactly what he’d meant when he said he wanted to feast on her. He used his hands to part her, giving himself better access.
He lapped at her, his tongue darting out and exploring her with reckless abandon. Marissa’s hands clenched, fisting in the blanket as she thrust her hips upward, meeting his hunger with desire of her own.
“Arthur,” she cried out as he sucked on her.
Something coiled deep within her, a knot forming deep below her navel. It felt as if she was climbing, reaching the top of the tallest mountain inside her.
She’d thought she’d been filled with need before, but that was nothing compared to the aching, ferocious want that filled her now. She felt delirious, lost in carnal pleasure.
One of Arthur’s hands moved, coming up to knead her breast. It was all too much. The feel of him devouring her between her thighs, the sharp twinge of delicious pain as he lightly pinched her nipple.
The pressure that had been building inside her gave way, sending her spiraling in on herself. Wave after wave of pleasure crashed over her. She felt dizzy and breathless and lost.
Her hands fisted in his hair, holding him in place as she rode wave after wave of release. And Arthur continued to feast on her, matching his pace with the frequency of her moans.
Slowly, as her breathing slowly started to return to normal and her body wracked itself with its final spasm of pleasure, Arthur stopped.
Marissa was breathless. Utterly and truly spent. She stared up at the sky, noting the stars dancing above them, the heavens having watched what had just happened on the blanket beneath them.
Arthur moved up her body, trailing kisses back up until he was leaning over her. A satisfied smirk danced on his face.
But Marissa just stared at the sky, unable to imagine how she would ever want to do anything other than this.
CHAPTER TWENTY
“And what’s that star?” Marissa asked, prompting Arthur to shake his head again.
After he’d feasted on her, hearing her crying out his name in ecstasy, he’d been able to regain some semblance of control. He did not want to move too fast.
Marissa, despite all her bravado, seemed skittish when it came to more private interactions. It had not been lost on him the way she’d balked at the thought of them sharing a bedchamber before the wedding. And he did not want to frighten her off.
It’s only the fact that she’s willin’ to marry me that’s keepin’ the council from breathin’ down me neck even more. I cannae have her rethinkin’ everythin’ or callin’ the whole thing off.
So, he’d given her a quick, chaste kiss and then lay beside her on the blanket.
They’d been looking at the stars ever since. She’d asked him the same question over and over again, asking him to identify the stars above them. And every time, he told her that he didn’t know.
“Are ye nae gettin’ tired of askin’ the same thing, kitten?” he asked, but he did nothing to disguise the humor in his voice.
“Ye can always make somethin’ up,” Marissa protested.
Arthur scoffed. “Ye’re the author, nae me.”
He didn’t need to look at her to know that she rolled her eyes at him.
“I have somethin’ to tell ye,” he murmured into the night.
He felt Marissa shift, and when he looked over at her, he found her lying on her side, propping her head in her hand as she studied him. Her brown eyes danced, reflecting the moonlight, making him stiffen below his kilt all over again.
Nay need for all of that.
He got control of himself and continued speaking.
“There will be a cèilidh tomorrow,” he advised. “It’s where ye’ll meet the council. I sent word to yer family first thing this mornin’, and I suspect they’ll arrive tomorrow.”
Marissa’s entire face lit up, her smile shining brighter than the moon.
