This caught Cassie off guard. She was speechless for the first time ever. When she finally processed what Rhema said, she slid down to the floor and pulled Rhema in for a hug.
“Rhema, baby. Wow, you’re so thoughtful. I’ll forever cherish your creation. It’s so beautiful. Thank you.”
The scene before me warmed my soul. Rhema was such a sweet child. Two of my favorite people and I, all under one roof, enjoying the simple part of life… sometimes it really do be the simple things. And truth be told, this moment wouldn’t even exist for us if Cassie hadn’t suggested that I become a surrogate.
At last, I was able to experience something like this in my life.
“Mrs. Cass, now you, Mommy, and I can all have matching bracelets.”
I flashed them a smile while the baby kicked up a storm in my belly.
“These are so beautiful. Thank you, Rhema baby.” Cassie grinned, pulling Rhema closer to her.
This was the greatest feeling.
CHAPTER 23
SAJE
“Please… Please… don’t do it! Don’t kill him!” I jumped in front of my lover, trying to protect him from meeting his demise.
“You told me you wouldn’t sleep with him again, and now here you are, back in bed with him!”
“Cut!” the director yelled, interrupting our scene. “Saje, I don’t know what is happening, but you’re not putting your all into this. I need real, raw emotions. Imagine Ezekiel is Reason, and he just caught you cheating. Give me that realness.”
Ezekiel cleared his throat and adjusted his tie.
Hmph. Randy, if you only knew. This is the story of my life, minus the getting caught part… I was too good at covering all my tracks for that to ever happen.
“Okay, okay, Randy. I got it. Let’s do it again.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes,” I replied impatiently.
Thinking about Reason and his newest request had me off my ‘A’ game. When shit started to interfere with my work, that was a problem. I regretted ever agreeing to us getting a damn surrogate. He went from wanting to keep our business private towanting to meet the bitch. For what? The stranger was probably a desperate, money hungry woman who came from nothing.
This was her come up and my nightmare. So why the fuck would I want to meet the bitch who was part of fucking my life up?
“You know what? Let’s take five,” Randy’s voice blared, disturbing my daydream.
Everyone looked in his direction as he glared at me.
“Fine,” I muttered. I threw on my robe over the television-approved negligee and made a beeline for my dressing room.
A minute later, there was a knock on my door. It could only be one person.
Ezekiel.
I didn’t answer, so he let himself in.
“Saje, you been trippin’ lately. Don’t be bringing yo’ home problems to the set. You know the deal,” he scolded, but all he got was my back to talk to.
I wasn’t trying to hear shit Ezekiel or anyone else had to say.
His footsteps were coming near me, and all I wanted to do was have a moment to myself.
“Look, no offense to you, but I need to deal with this on my own,” I told him.
