After I pulled up behind her car, I turned off the engine and just sat in silence. I already had a fucked-up day. Could this day get any worse? Once I got enough of sitting in my vehicle, I grabbed my belongings and headed inside.

“Oh, there’s your infertile wife,” Tammi’s old ass said as soon as I stepped into my home.

“Ma!” Reason’s voice rose. “Mama, I love you, but if you keep disrespecting Saje, I’ma have to ask you to leave.”

I smiled inwardly. That’s right, baby. Check your bitch of a mother.

Tammi hushed up fast, but her eyes peered into me. I wondered if she could sense what I was doing behind her son’sback. If she did, she didn’t say anything, and even if she did, they would never get a confession out of me. If Reason knew how I felt about his mama, he would probably divorce my ass tonight. But I played along like the innocent wife he thought I was. All that did was make his mama look like a stupid bully. If anything, this would only make Reason continue giving me the world.

She could keep on going with the insults, ’cause infertile where? This pussy and womb were definitely not out of order like her shriveled-up shit was.

“Mama came over to congratulate us, and we came up with a good idea.”

I hesitantly nodded, afraid to hear what type of ‘good idea’ they came up with.

“Yeah, and what’s that?” I said, wishing I could walk away and leave both of their asses standing there. I wanted them to keep me out of their plans.

“Since we agreed to meet the surrogate, I wanted to come up with a plan that would be beneficial for us all.”

Great! Thanks for reminding me about that shit.I really had to stop letting Reason ask me questions while he was fucking me. In those vulnerable moments, a bitch would agree to any fucking thing.

“Beneficial how?” Not really caring how shit would be beneficial. The only thing that would be beneficial to me was him letting that surrogate keep her fucking baby and Reason and me moving on with our lives. Everything else was a pain in my ass.

“It ain’t set in stone yet. Basheer is still working with the owners on getting the surrogate to agree to meeting us, but I was thinking about us having a gender reveal. That way, we can meet the courageous woman who’s risking it all to carry our child, and we can find out if we’re having a beautiful baby girl or a handsome baby boy. What you think?”

Somebody twist my fucking skin and wake my ass up from this horrific dream. My husband was here sounding like a fucking simp.

“Reason, it’s all in her face what she thinks,” his mother added her unwanted two cents.

Bitch, shut up.

Now I wanted her out of my face. I thought I had mastered my poker face, but this heffa was seeing right through the fakeness I portrayed, and I didn’t like that.

Reason shot Tammi a look, and she went back to flipping the pages of a magazine that Reason graced the cover of.

“Saje, how do you feel about us having a gender reveal with the surrogate?”

I tried to smile, but my lips felt rigid. “Can we discuss this privately?” I asked, glancing at his mother.

I didn’t want to meetourbaby, let alone the surrogate. This situation was spiraling out of control and becoming too much.

“Yeah, baby. Give me a minute.”

I took that as my sign to get the fuck away from Tammi. Her deep stares made me uncomfortable, and I didn’t need her to figure out what was really going on. I couldn’t escape our living room fast enough, but not before I heard Tammi say, “You better be careful, son. Open your damn eyes. I know I taught you better than this, Reason. That woman doesn’t seem too happy aboutyourchild.”

You damn right about that, bitch, but that ain’t none of your business.

I slowed down to hear Reason’s response. The last thing I needed was him questioning anything.

“Mama, you gotta stop. Saje is happy about our baby. She’s just tired and going through her own personal battles.”

“Hmph.”

“Give her a chance. She’s going to be a great mother once she adjusts to everything.”

I smirked.Yes, husband, that’s what I’m talkin’ about. Have your wife’s back.

He couldn’t be more wrong, but I was happy he was taking up for me. Once I was certain he didn’t suspect anything, I quietly walked off.
