We both let out a deep, throaty laugh.
“You’re right about that. Damn, I didn’t think about it in that way.” Listening to Cassie explain her view on the situation made the idea of meeting the family not sound too bad after all. “Thank you, Cass. I’ll call you back later.”
Out of nowhere, the sound of water running came through the line.
“Alright, and you better be calling Amara to tell her you’re all in.”
I chuckled. “I am.” The anxiousness I had prior to calling Cassie subsided.
I stood up from the couch and ambled toward the floor-to-ceiling window. It was a cloudy winter day with just a slight peek of the sun. Nonetheless, the view from above the city was a different type of beauty. I made sure to appreciate the scenery whenever I could.
While still looking outside, I called Amara’s number, hoping she was still in the office.
“Hello, thank you for calling Little Miracles Surrogacy. This is Amara speaking.”
“Hey, Amara. It’s Ember.” I nibbled on the inside of my cheek.
“Oh, Ember. I didn’t expect to hear back from you so soon.”
“I know, but I made a decision sooner than I expected.”
“Sounds good. How should we proceed?”
I took a deep breath. “You can go ahead and set up the meeting… I’ll meet them.”
I could’ve sworn I heard Amara clapping. “Yes! They are going to be very pleased to hear that. In case you did say yes, I was instructed to tell you that the meeting will happen at a gender reveal. Their close family and friends will be in attendance as well.”
“Huh?” was all I managed to utter.
Family? Friends? Meaning I would be the only stranger there.
Suddenly, I felt the baby doing somersaults in my belly.
“They want to kill two birds with one stone. First, they want to thank you personally, and second, they want to find out the sex of their baby. But…” she paused and then carried on. “There are some stipulations.”
“And those are?”
“You will have to sign an NDA. My clients are extremely private and would hate for any of their business to get out before they can tell the world themselves.”
The world?
So, not only were these people rich, was Amara saying they were celebrities too?Am I really carrying a baby for a famous couple?
“Well, they don’t have to worry about me telling a soul,” I told her. It was the truth; I didn’t have anyone to tell but Cassie.
“That’s great to hear. There shouldn’t be any issues then.”
“Not at all,” I responded.
“The other thing I want to let you know is that the gender reveal will take place in Miami. The best part is you’ll be flying there in a private jet with an entire medical team on board. My clients want to ensure that you and the baby are comfortable and protected as much as possible during the flight.”
Wow! A private jet? This had to be a dream.Who are these people?
It was a good feeling to know I wouldn’t have anything to worry about, but still, this was a lot to take in. My life felt like it had changed overnight, and it’d been moving forward at a high speed ever since.
“I’m sorry for my silence, Amara. I’m still trying to process this.”
“I thoroughly understand. It’s a lot, but you are in good hands… very good hands,” she reiterated.
