Ensley floats back over to me. “Girl, do you see him watching you?” She throws her hands above her head and looks down on me and then back over her shoulder at the person in the mask.

“Let’s try and take a picture. That is so fucking hot. I’ll keep it for later.” She winks at me and then turns, shoving her ass into my front. “Smile like we’re gonna take a selfie, and I’ll take a picture of him instead.”

I smile and pose and watch the moment Ensley presses the button, and to our absolute horror, the flash goes off, giving our secret photo away.

“Oh shit,” Ensley says at the same time I let out, “Oh fuck.” And we both drop low to the floor in a fit of laughter. We stay hunched over, cackling as we make our way out of the line of sight of Ghost Mask.

Once we hit the sidelines, Ensley gets pulled back on the dance floor by another one of her friends. My smile starts to fade as my mindwanders to Harley again. I wish he was here, but I don’t want to push him if he needs space.

I try not to think about it. The feeling of guilt keeps coming back in waves. Maybe I’m just drunk, but I miss him. Against my better judgement, I pull my phone out of my pocket and open my contacts, searching for his name. I bump into someone as I make my way towards the hall, eyes glued to my phone.

I enter the bathroom and press call. The phone rings twice, then goes to voicemail.

Fucking ugh.

A second later, my phone vibrates.

HARLEY

Did you need something?

You

I wait for a response, but nothing comes. I plop down on the toilet and let out a deep sigh. I feel myself starting to lose my extroverted personality from drinking, and I think about sneaking off early, turning in for the night.

After deciding to try and enjoy myself for just a little longer, I pull open the bathroom door. When I step into the hallway, I’m met with the Ghost Face mask yet again. They lean against the wall across from the bathroom, arms crossed to their front.

My antennas shoot up again, and I realize I may have shown interest in the kitchen and I want to squash that. “Hey, I appreciate you helping with the cup, but I’m actually taken,” I say bluntly. I don’t want to leave any room for miscommunication.

Ghost Mask steps towards me and I take a step back, keeping the same distance.

”Dude, not interested,” I say in a stern tone.

Ghost Mask cocks his head to the side before quickly advancing after me, pushing me into the bathroom.

I begin to panic and attempt to shove them back, but when my arms make contact, he quickly grabs my wrists and spins me around, pulling my back to his front. My wings make it a difficult fit and I’m thankful for that.

”Help!” I start to scream.

Ghost Mask lowers his head to my ear and whispers, “I took some time, boo.”

Harley.

Hearing him spout my own words back to me in his husky voice, sends a shiver down my spine.

I step out of his embrace and spin around, facing him.

“What the fuck? How are you here?” I ask him, confusion swirling in my mind.

“Do you want me to be honest?” he asks me, backing up to lean against the door.

“I wouldn’t ask a question if I didn’t want an answer.” I fold my arms across my chest.

“I put a tracker in your weekend bag,” he says, mirroring my arm movements.

My eyes go wide. “Are you fucking kidding?”

“Do I look like I’m kidding, Ember?” he deadpans.
