“You’re too easy to rile.”
I arch an eyebrow at that, because so is she. Anywhere I involve myself with her work, or even in her proximity, I’m on the receiving end of a scowl, and it keeps me coming back for more.
“So she can play,” I say, acting surprised.
She casually shrugs. “Just like he might have a sense of humor, however small.”
I click my tongue and roll onto my back, bringing her with me. Her body locks up with the ease she melts into my chest, and I’m quick to say, “Don’t worry, Doc. We’re not cuddling or falling asleep. We’re recharging for five minutes before I fuck you into oblivion again. I’m just keeping hold so you don’t try to escape.”
Her voice is sultry. “If I wanted to escape, I’d simply reacquaint you with my kitchen knife.” But her body melts into me a little more. A silence fills the room as we look at one another. One thing I appreciate about this woman is that she very rarely looks away. One of her legs comfortably slides between mine, and I’m surprised at first. Considering what she does best is push me away, but something shifts between us, just small, though.
“Tell me something that not many people know about the ruthless Silas Vescari. I bet you have some weird doll collection or something.”
She laughs at my expression, but I can’t help but seize the opportunity to make her slightly more curious. “I have a watch collection.”
Leonore clicks her tongue. “How boring.”
“And a gun collection.”
“As expected. The Vescari crew is known for their weapons.”
I arch an eyebrow. “So you have looked into me.”
She rolls her eyes. “No more than any of the other families. It’s important for me to know who I’m working with.”
“And this is how you treat all your clients?”
Her sharp nails pinch into my ribs, and I can’t help but fight a smile, though my question is serious. If I find out anyone else has touched her, then I will start a fucking war.
“No, and this doesn’t change anything. No one can find out. It’s just sex.”
“Just sex,” I repeat. She seems pleased with the affirmation as she comfortably rests her head on my shoulder and begins trailing the tattoos on my stomach with her sharp pointed nail. I can tell she’s thinking. I doubt very rarely is this clever woman not thinking about something.
“Who was that man on the table to you?” she asks, and I know immediately who she’s talking about.
“Pietro Vescari,” I say immediately. “He was my uncle.”
Her fingertip freezes briefly on my stomach before she continues. The sharp dig of her nail feels almost soothing as she says, “Have you found any leads?”
My gaze slices to the top of her head, and she doesn’t look at me. I suspect she’s hiding something, but I’ve accepted the fact that this woman is full of secrets.
Secrets I plan to reveal one by one, with the patience of a lifetime, because I have no intention of letting Leonore escape my grasp. I’ll let her think she’s in control, but I won’t release her until I’ve had my fill, and for some reason, I don’t think I’ll ever find it. Even when she’s not close by, I’m wondering about her and when I can get my next fix.
“I found the body,” I finally say, and then she looks up at me.
“What?” She shoots up, but I catch her elbow, pulling her back into my chest.
“Calm down, Doc. We were able to have a funeral for him, like he deserved.”
“Why didn’t you tell me this? Isn’t this the whole reason you started bothering me in the first place?”
I hide the smile. “And I’ve continuedbotheringyou because I like the feel of you around my cock.”
Her expression shifts subtly, as if she’s working something out. I can see irritation there, but it shifts into something gentler as she asks, “Do you know who did it?”
“I have suspicions, but I’m waiting for them to reveal themselves. It won’t be too long.” She seems to turn a shade paler. “Why, do you know who did it?”
“No,” she’s quick to say. “I’m just pissed that you didn’t tell me. I want to know who the fuck was ballsy enough to break into my place of work. You were supposed to tell me.”
