I knew it.
“And what about Thanksgiving?”
I twisted the pasta noodles around in my bowl. “I have a class in the morning, which you’re going to come to, and then I figured football, movies, couch time, and Thanksgiving tacos.”
“Tacos?”
“Yeah, I miss them. And you can make them for me,” I grinned.
“You have yourself a deal, young lady. You really want me to come to your class?”
I nodded. “It’ll be fun. Then we’ll come back here and hibernate. I don’t feel like going out much.”
“Okay, done. Now let’s eat and watch a movie. Then I’m going to go for a run, assuming NHL players can afford treadmills on the pittance they earn, because there’s no fucking way I’m going out in that weather.”
He pointed up to the glass ceiling, where the rain was still hammering down.
I rolled my eyes.
To be fair, he had a point.
The phone rang throughout the car and I grabbed it before Jupiter answered from the steering wheel.
“Hey, sweetheart, where are you?”
“Driving into the city.” I turned the phone round so he could see we were on the interstate, Jupiter flipping him the bird as he came into screen.
“Scratch my car, Reeves, and you’re buying me a new one.”
Jupiter let out a low chuckle.
“Where are you?”
“Just heading to the arena for morning warm up and skate.”
“You still have to practice even though you’re not playing?”
He nodded. “Yep.”
“How’s everyone feeling this time?”
The first two games without Drew or Felix didn’t go so well, and I know he was warring with himself at the guilt for being off the ice and his satisfaction at beating the shit out of Devon Walls. They were better by the third and fourth, but still shaky.
And I also knew how much he was missing Felix.
He shrugged. “Okay, I think. They’re going to be fine, and it’s allowed Carter and Dante to step up to first line, so that’s good.”
“Hey, Crawley, who’ve you got tonight?”
“Dallas.”
“Em and I will be watching. You should do alright; they’ve been playing like crap this season so maybe it’s good you’re not at full strength. At least you’re not playing Chicago.”
Drew rolled his lip, considering what Jupiter said.
“Yeah, you’re right.”
“I am. When I got suspended last year for knocking out that dick Travis, it fucking sucked. I know how you feel, but you’ve only got two games left, and it was worth it for Clevs. Devon Walls is literally the worst human being I’ve ever met. No one will blame you for not playing, and you’re already top of the table, so it won’t affect anything.”
