I shrugged.
She picked up her phone, looking at the time. “I’m sure he’s just running late. He’ll be here.”
Forty-five minutes later she stood up, and held her hand out to me. “Come on. Let’s go and get drunk.”
I followed her out, the aching had returned a hundred-fold and I couldn’t tell which was the greater cause; my ex-boyfriend of five years cheating, or my sex god of twelve hours failing to keep to his word.
A subconscious last glance around the lobby for giant muscles, chiseled cheekbones and a perfect dimple, told me it was the latter.
Chapter 4
Aloud banging rattled my brain before my body started shaking. It took me a second to realize it wasn’t from my hangover, although that wasn’t helping.
“For fuck’s sake, wake up, we have to leave in thirty.” Felix’s voice echoed loudly around the room.
I threw my arm over my face, attempting to block out the noise and the blinding light from the outside after he’d rudely opened the drapes. “I’m not hungry, just go.”
“Dude, we’re flying out in an hour. Get up.” He shook me again.
The fuck he just say?
I bolted upright, my hangover reverberating around my brain, again.
“What time is it?”
“Five.” He narrowed his eyes at me. “Get in the shower and scrub - whatever that shit is - off your face.”
I frowned at his departing back.
Throwing back the sheets, the smell of sex hit me hard. Then visions from the night hit me harder, stabbing right behind my eyelids and searing my brain; right before horror took hold.
Lucky.
I said I’d meet her at lunchtime.
FUCK!
Her number. I glanced down, black ink was smudged along my forearm and, after Felix’s comment, I guessed over my face. Either way, her message was indecipherable.
Fuck. Fuck.FUCK.
I squeezed my eyes tight trying to remember what she’d written, but the fuzz in my head made it impossible. I ran to the bathroom, a sinking feeling clinging onto my bones and pulling deep in my stomach. My reflection confirmed where the remainder of the ink was.
FUCK!
I had no way of contacting her. I didn’t even know her name.
Picking up the nearest thing in reach, it was launched against the wall, and I found myself covered in shampoo as it sprayed everywhere.
Less than three minutes later, I threw everything I had into my suitcase, got dressed, grabbed my shades and carry-on bag, and sprinted through to the suite where Felix and Tate were standing around like they had all the fucking time in the world.
“I’m going to reception, the porter is coming to get all this, yeah?” I nodded to the selection of cases they appeared to be guarding, and parked mine at their feet. I didn’t wait for a reply before I took off for the elevators.
I wasn’t sure whether repeatedly punching the elevator buttons super fast would get me to the lobby quicker, but I wasn’t about to take the risk in case it did. Coop was already downstairs corralling everyone like a fucking Boy Scout leader, so I slunk out of his way before he spied me, continuing my dash to the concierge.
“Good afternoon, Mr Crawley. How may I help you?”
“I’m looking for a woman, red hair, freckles all over her nose, mostly legs - about five ten.” I raised my hand up, on theoff-chance he didn’t know how tall that was, swiftly realising I wasn’t doing her justice with my rudimentary description. Maybe it would help if I added she was the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen… “we were on the high roller tables last night…”
