“MOLLY!”

That got her. She bolted upright, rubbing the top of her arm.

She looked at the floor, frowning. “Did you just throw a cup at me?”

“Yes.”

She bent down to pick it up, looking at me but not quite meeting my eyes. “Why?”

I scowled at her; I wanted her to feel my annoyance. “Why haven’t you been to see me?”

She didn’t answer straight away. “I’m here right now.”

“Why have you been ignoring me?” I snapped.

Her head dropped again. “I haven’t.”

My eyes narrowed. “You fucking have. I haven’t seen you since before you operated on me. You did operate on me, didn’t you, Mol? You did fix my leg for me, right?”

She shifted around on the couch, rubbing her fingers over her forehead.

“Molly?”

“Yes. Yes, I operated on you.”

“Then can you please look at me and tell me why you’ve been ignoring me for a week?”

Like a flare, her eyes shot up flashing bright, boring deep into mine... And Devon Walls may as well have checked me into the boards again, because hitting me at hyper speed, my dream became reality, my brain playing every single memory to me, like a flicker book.

Fuck me. It was Molly.

And I definitely wasn’t dreaming this.

I held her gaze. Tonight, the caramel had turned to a deep toffee highlighted by the faint lilac circles underneath because she hadn’t slept properly in a week, but I could still see the warmth glowing through. Her cherry lips looked paler, but no less soft and supple, and I had no doubt that if I pressed them to mine again they’d feel just as perfect.

Her eyes burned bright as I searched them, searched them for answers to the questions I couldn’t voice. And she knew. In that split second where everything became clear, as sharply focused as Ultra HD, she knew that I knew.

That I’d remembered.

“That’s why, Felix. That’s why I haven’t been to see you.”

Then she fled. And for the second time in as many days, I was incapable of chasing after her.

Chapter 26

Of all the things I was most proud of in my life, my behavior in the last week would most definitelynotmake the list.

I groaned, my belly flip flopping again, like it did every time I thought about how I’d run away from Felix as he’d stared at me while his memory returned. His deep blue eyes wide, flashing in shock and something else I couldn’t decipher and didn’t want to stick around long enough to find out.

I don’t know what had come over me. It was almost like I’d travelled back in time twelve years, and the college girl with a crush had resurfaced. And this was no phoenix rising from the ashes situation, she needed to stay down.

I was a goddamn orthopedic surgeon for fuck’s sake! I broke bones and fixed them for a living. I was supposed to have my shit together.

I stepped forward to the front of the queue I was currently standing in. “Hello, I’ll take an everything bagel with extra cream cheese and a large coffee, please.”

My carb and caffeine intake had also doubled, a direct correlation to my sleepless nights where I tried my hardest not to think about what he’d meant when he said he’d always wondered what my lips felt like. I tried even harder not to think about what his lips had felt like against mine, his fingers running through my hair pulling me into him so his tongue could explore mine and…

“Name?” barked the girl behind the counter, shocking me out of my six hundredth daydream of the week.
