“Holy fuck. Where did these come from? They’ve got to be some kind of health hazard.”

“That’s what I’d like to know too.”

Their heads whipped around to my mother, who’d removed her coat and positioned herself against the arm of the couch on the back wall.

“Guys, you remember my mom?”

It had been a long time since my mom had visited me at the hospital, but seeing as the three of us had studied together, they’d met on more than one occasion.

“Of course,MadameMarks.” Jameson strolled over and kissed my mother’s hand. “Always a pleasure to see you.”

My lip curled and my eyes rolled, then rolled again seconds later as the thickly laid on charm clearly worked for my mother who smiled broadly at them. My parents were still very much in love, but she had a thing for beauty, believing we should surround ourselves with beauty of any kind as much as possible. Therefore, she was a sucker for a good-looking man. And, as much as I hated to admit it, these two had good-looking nailed down.

She stood up, allowing Hunter to greet her in a similar fashion. “How wonderful to see you boys. You both look very well, grown into handsome men I see.”

“Thank you. We try.” Hunter winked at her.

Jesus.

“Okay, that’s enough. What do you two want?”

Jameson eyed me. “You wanted to see us?”

“Did I?” I wracked my brain, which had clearly ceased functioning in the last twenty-four hours because I could remember nothing but Felix.

Oh, Felix.

I needed them to take his next surgery.

I cleared my throat. “Oh, yes, I just wanted to check it’s okay for you to continue with Felix Cleverly. He has his ACL booked for after the holidays, and it would be good if you could do it.”

“Molly, in case you’ve forgotten, he’s my patient now. So yes, we are performing his surgery.” Hunter thumbed between him and Jameson. “We were always going to be doing it.”

I didn’t want to point out that I never officially handed him over. “Okay, thanks.”

“Felix looks good.”

It turned to my mother. “What do you mean ‘he looks good’?”

She shrugged. “I saw him and he looks good.”

My forehead creased up. “You saw Felix?”

“Yes, Freddie and I had lunch with him the other day.”

“Oh.” I could feel my annoyance at everyone rising by the second. I bit down on the inside of my cheek, trying to stave off any reaction in front of three people I really didn’t want to share with. Or definitely two. I didn’t like that I hadn’t known that. And I didn’t like that I didn’t like that. It had been over a month and I still hadn’t managed to control these emotional flare-ups. It was like being a hormonal teenager all over again. In fact, it was amazing to me that teenagers weren’t more crazy and annoying if they had to put up with this shit every day.

Hunter stared at me for a beat longer than I appreciated before he turned to back to my mom. “He is good. He’s been healing really well, impressively well actually. His next surgery will help a lot.”

“I think you’re all incredible for the work you do.” I watched her expression change, her ticking brain almost visible. “Tell me, boys, how many hours do you work a week?”

I groaned.

Jameson shrugged. “We usually do about sixty-five or seventy, but it depends.”

It was impressive how she managed to simultaneously raise her eyebrow at me while also narrowing her eyes to slits. “See, Molly? You don’t need to work ninety hours.”

Hunter stared at me suspiciously again. “You’ve been working ninety hours? Perhaps if you didn’t steal surgeries you’d work the more reasonable hours the rest of us do.”
