The five of us looked at them in confusion. Jasper immediately pulled her into an embrace, kissing her head, before narrowing his eyes at me.

“What did you do to make my wife cry?”

I looked at him and shrugged my shoulders. “Nothing. I haven’t done anything.”

“Dude, she cries at everything at right now.” Everyone turned to Felix. “What? She does. No offense, Wolf.”

Then Freddie started.

Cooper pulled her onto his lap, looking around at us with a similar expression to the one Jasper held. Jas shook his head, his hands still full of Wolfie. Everyone turned to look at me.

Wolfie crying was one thing, but Freddie? And fuck me, but women crying were my kryptonite. If this went on any longer, I’d be joining them and I didn’t even know why.

I walked over and knelt by her. “Fredster, sweetheart, can I have my phone back, please? And do you think you could tell me why you’re crying?”

She looked up at Wolfie before pulling me into a big hug, her arms wrapping around my neck.

I rubbed her back as she sobbed on my shoulder and I coughed away the lump forming in my throat. “Can someone please explain to me what’s going on?”

“Baby, let go of Drew before he starts bawling too.” Cooper stood up and peeled her away before turning to Wolfie. “Okay, can the pair of you please enlighten us on the tears? We can’t fix it if we don’t know what’s going on.”

Freddie sniffed and wiped her arm across her nose, glancing at Wolfie one more time before waving her hand in front of her face.

“Sorry, sorry. These are happy tears.” She looked up at me. “Drew, babe, we found her.”

I looked around at the boys. All four of them stared back at me, their faces screwed up in confusion.

“Found who?”

She took my phone back, holding it up in front of me and pointed to the screen. “Lucky. We found Lucky.”

What?

I blinked several times in fast succession, trying to figure out if I’d heard properly. “I’m sorry. What?”

“We found her,” Wolfie repeated.

My brows connected in a deep frown. “I don’t understand. What do you mean you found her? Lucky? You know where she is?”

They both nodded.

Blood whooshed in my ears, echoing around my brain and pumping to the rhythm of my heart, a beat that was rapidly quickening. It was the only sound I could hear in the silence ofthe apartment; everyone else was waiting with bated breath for me to react.

Jasper turned to Wolfie, stroking her hair. “Cub, are you sure? This isn’t you two trying to be funny?”

Wolfie’s eyes filled with indignation, her temper flaring. If you looked up pregnancy mood swings in the dictionary, her picture would be next to it.

“No, Jasper. We saw her. We wouldn’t make a joke about this, why would we do that? We saw her, talked to her.” She turned back to me, her expression softening again. If I wasn’t in a degree of shock, I’d probably be scared. “Freddie asked her if she’d ever been to Vegas and she said yes.”

“Tiny, baby, where did you see her?” Cooper asked before I could, keeping his voice soft and steady, clearly not wanting to make the same mistake as Jasper.

“She was our spinning instructor in the class today. Her name is Emerson Reeves.” She rolled her lips nervously, her voice quieting. “She said she’s lived here for nine months, but she never normally teaches our class, so we’d never seen her before.”

Did I just hear that right? Nine months?

An irrational burst of anger welled up from deep inside, exploding like a volcano, turning my blood to lava and swiftly drying the tears I’d built up watching Wolf and Freddie cry.

“Nine months. NINE MONTHS! NINE FUCKING MONTHS IN THIS CITY? RIGHT UNDER MY NOSE?”
