She sniffed and nodded, her chin quivering. “I love you. Please hurry up.”

Molly passed me the phone after Cooper hung up, one hand still holding onto Freddie.

“Come on, let’s get you back into bed.”

“Molly, I don’t need to get back into bed, I need drugs. Can you please go and find me some drugs?”

Molly started laughing. “Get into bed and I’ll get the nurse.”

She left the room as Murray crossed over to give Freddie a kiss. “Hi, darling, are you terrorizing the nurses already? They’re the ones with the drugs, so it’s probably not a good idea.”

“Murray, if you’re going to be here, make yourself useful and don’t piss me off. Please can you try Mum and Wolf? They’re still not here.”

He chuckled, joining me on the couch. “I have, and they’re all on the way.”

The door opened and in walked Molly. “The nurse will come and give you some drugs.”

She tried to close it behind her but was stopped as Wolf, Diane, and Gabrielle all arrived, rushing over to her bed and fussing around her.

“Oh my God, Freddie. How are you? What’s the doctor said? Has anyone spoken to Cooper? How are you feeling?”

The room had swiftly turned into a circus of squawking women, and it was hard to decipher who was asking what. Murray groaned beside me and pulled out his phone, studying one of his trading and finance apps, no doubt trying to block out the rising noise.

I nudged him. “You best not be losing my money by being out of the office.”

“Don’t worry your pretty little self about anything.” He tapped his head. “This is my office.”

I snorted in response, looking up at Molly, who was talking animatedly to her mom, until her pager went off and she rushedoutside. I gave it thirty seconds before I got up and followed her, not that anyone would notice.

I found her in the hallway, on the phone.

“Okay, thanks.” She put the receiver back on its hook and turned round to find me standing there. “My surgery got cancelled.”

“What does that mean? Is that bad?”

“No, it’s happening tomorrow. The anesthesiologist was sick and no one else was free.”

“So you’re done for the day?”

“I have some paperwork, but yes, I’m done.”

Halle-fucking-lujah.

I held my hand out to her. “Good, let’s go to your office.”

“Why?”

“Because everyone’s fussing around in there and I need some alone time with you.”

She smiled softly, taking my hand. “Okay.”

Her office smelled like my grandparents’ garden after a heavy summer rain, and I spied the giant vase of roses taking up half the table at one end of the room. I closed the door, pulling her into me, holding her face still as I kissed her long and hard, breathing her in, quenching the almost unbearable thirst for her that now coursed through me. My tongue stroked against hers, tasting her, soaking in her warmth and she groaned softly into my mouth. Tilting her head, I trailed soft kisses across her jawline and down her neck, running along the soft skin, feeling her pulse quicken against my lips. This time the groan was mine as all my blood shot straight to my dick, and it took every ounce of self-discipline to separate from her.

“I am never going to get enough of that.” I pushed the hair away from her face, studying her as she looked up at me. “How’ve we only just figured out how good we are at this?”

She chuckled and I moved away, pulling her with me as I took a seat in her chair.

“Mol, come here.” I patted my lap.
