“Not bad, actually. It aches a bit, but it’s better every day.”
“Nice.
“Is Molly doing the surgery again?”
I shook my head as I squeezed some toothpaste onto my toothbrush. “No, it’s that dick, Reyes.”
“How come? And why don’t we like him?”
I shrugged. “Dunno really. Just don’t. He pisses me off.”
“Okay.”
We were best friends for so many reasons. One of which was that we never needed to reasonably explain anything to the other and it was okay, because we would always have each other’s backs, no matter what. And I really had no reason to dislike Hunter Reyes, he was a very good surgeon, but there was something about the way he said Molly’s name, or looked at her, that made me want to punch him in the face.
He leant back on the sink. “And what’s the latest with Mol?”
“Nothing since I spoke to you this morning.”
As was the norm with us, even when we weren’t divided by a continent, we spoke several times a day, and I’d kept him up to date with everything happening with Molly.
“You haven’t spoken to Coop yet?”
I shook my head. “No, and it’s not like I haven’t tried but I don’t want him to be holding Samson when I tell him.”
He scoffed. “It’s not a bad idea, at least it’ll give you a head start on the run while he puts the baby down.”
“Dude, with my leg, I wouldn’t even make it to the front door before he flattened me.”
“It might not be that bad.”
“It’s definitely going to be that bad. And I need to do it soon, because I can’t hold out much longer.”
He turned and looked at me in the reflection of the mirror. “That good?”
I hadn’t told him about last week in her office, and I didn’t have plans to, but he could see it in my eyes. He knew the look because it was the same one he’d had when he found Emerson again.
I spat toothpaste out and rinsed my mouth out. “I didn’t even know it could be like this.”
“Yeah, when you find that person, it’s like nothing else. Emerson has changed my life.”
“I know. I’m happy for you, bud. Really fucking happy.” I grinned at him. “Just wish I wasn’t such a dipshit that it took me so long to figure this thing with Molly out.”
“Nah, it’s like what the girls say. It’s all about timing and the universe.”
I started laughing. “What the fuck has happened to us?”
“I have no fucking idea.” He scratched his beard. “Right, are we getting ready or what?”
I passed him a razor. “Yep. Did you bring the stuff with you?”
He held a bag up. “I did.”
“Good, let’s get to work.”
Two hours later, Ralph pulled up in front of Coop and Freddie’s, and I followed Drew as he climbed out.
“Thanks Ralphie. The girls are ready at Drew and Emerson’s if you can go and collect them.”
