“Dick.” I looked down at Sam as he gurgled. “You like me fat, don’t you?”
“Who’s fat?” Drew asked, walking into the kitchen, joining us, slapping my palm as he sat down. “Hey, bud.”
Huck threw him a drink. “Clevs is getting fat.”
“What?”
“Don’t worry about it. What’re you doing here anyway?”
He brushed Sam’s head, who was now sleeping peacefully. “Coop said he was heading over.”
“So you came to see Sammy, not me?”
He grinned. “Yup.”
Coop nodded over to him. “Drew, you want mac and cheese?”
“Um. Yes. Yes, I do.”
Huck and Cooper started bickering at the kitchen island, mostly because Cooper was a control freak in the kitchen, and Huck probably wasn’t grating the cheese at the exact angle he’d been instructed to.
We watched them for a minute, like a bad sitcom, before Drew turned to me.
“How’re you getting on?”
“Alright.” I shrugged. “Hey, have you ever had acupuncture?”
He twisted the cap off his water. “Yeah, Emerson makes me go. It’s good though. Not sure what it does, but I always feel better after. She’s going to have it available in the studio. Why?”
“My new PT’s been doing it on me, and I think it’s working.”
“The one Coach set you up with?”
“Yeah.”
“What’s she like?”
I shrugged again. “Okay, doesn’t really say much, but she gets the job done, so I’ve got no complaints.”
He got up, grabbing some chips from the pantry and sat back down, ignoring Cooper’s grumbling about ruining his appetite.
“And how’s Mol?”
I think my heart may have fluttered, because that’s what happened now whenever I thought about Molly. “Good. I haven’t seen her much this week, but it’s good.”
“How come?”
I threw a chip into my mouth. I was definitely getting fat. Maybe Molly wouldn’t mind the Santa bod.
“She’s always working.”
“That sucks. I’m not missing Emerson’s early mornings right now, I tell ya.”
“Yeah, I think it’s stressing her out a bit.”
Although it wasn’t so much a thought as a know. We’d had more than one conversation about her hours, always instigated by her, and I hadn’t managed to get through to her yet that our time together was about quality not quantity, and we would figure it out together. But she was as stubborn as her brother, and I knew it would take time.
“What do you mean?”
