I sipped my coffee, flashbacks of being pressed against her smoking body flickering through my brain. “We made out like horny teenagers. Then I took her home and walked her to her door, left, and spent the rest of the night in a cold shower.”
“Oh, babe,” she cackled, stacking the pancakes. “How was the making out? God, there’s nothing better than good snog.”
I realized we were missing vital ingredients and ran to the pantry to get the maple syrup, as well as berries and yogurt, lining it along the counter for her to take while I grabbed the cutlery from the drawer. I sat back down, pulling my plate overand spooned everything on top of my pancakes before drowning them in syrup.
I fucking loved breakfast.
As I forked in a massive mouthful, I looked up to find Freddie staring. “What?”
“How was it?”
I grinned. “Amazing. Off the charts hot.”
Her grin mirrored mine. “Bet it was hard to leave her at the end of the night.”
I picked up my coffee. “Hardest thing I’ve ever done.”
I wasn’t kidding.
“She’s the one, Fred. She’s it.”
Saying it out loud made it sound so right.
Her eyes filled with tears. Fuck, I wasn’t emotionally prepared to see her crying again this early in the day. I always forgot how quickly they started.
“Fredster?”
“No, no. It’s fine,” she sniffed, pushing back on the stool and rubbing her belly. “When are you going to see her again then?”
We’d spent most of yesterday texting. Even though it was mostly light-hearted nonsense between stupid memes, funny gifs, and her grumbling that my number was still on her arm, it confirmed what I already knew.
That she was special.
And I didn’t want to wait. I couldn’t wait.
I needed to get to know her properly. We needed to get to know each other. Starting ASAP.
“Tomorrow.”
“What are you going to do?”
I poured out two glasses of fresh orange juice, passing one to her. “I haven’t decided yet.”
“What about your list?” She raised her eyebrow, her lip quivering slightly in amusement.
I groaned.
My list.
When I first began to realize that Lucky was different to anyone else I’d met, I’d started thinking about all the things I’d like to do if we were together and mentally stored them up. Jasper and Wolfie hadn’t been married long, Cooper and Freddie were glued together, and all their love had started infiltrating our bachelor ways. In the misery I’d felt, I’d watched how happy they were.
I’d told Freddie about it one night when we’d all been out drinking. We were both wasted, but she’d conveniently remembered and hadn’t let me forget. If that wasn’t bad enough, she also renamed it‘Drew and Lucky’s list of PerfectDates’. It wasn’t all big hearts and flowers; it was smaller things that I’d never done with a woman before, like brunch or reading the papers in bed together or taking her to my favorite places.
And I’d made her promise not to breathe a word of it, because even saying it in my head sounded lame as fuck.
“Yeah, I still have it. But I don’t know if I need to do something better.” I wasn’t sure my list was going to win me any points. “Fred, how many dates do I need to take her on until we can have sex?”
She snorted loudly, shaking her head.
