Chapter 10
Fuck me.
She picked up on the third ring, her face filling the screen. Even though it had barely been a day since I’d seen her, I was still momentarily stunned that she was really real.
Everything I’d been dreaming about finally within my grasp.
“Hey.” She smiled at me, a scattering of freckles spreading wide across her face. She was like a rainbow after a storm, warmth radiating out of her, hitting me square in the chest.
“Hey, yourself.”
“What’s up?”
I sat back on my couch, propping my phone up and settling in so I could stare at her face as long as possible. “Nothing. I just wanted to see how your class went, how your day was, see your face and hear your voice… In no particular order.”
She laughed. “Oh, is that all?”
“Yep, that’s all.”
Her smile grew, making her eyes sparkle. “Class was good.”
“Even at six a.m. on a Monday? Sounds like punishment to me.”
Her eyebrows rose. “You say that, but there’s always a wait list. People love a bit of competition. And don’t try to tell me you’re not familiar with the early morning workout.”
“Yeah, but that’s my job, which I get paid for. I don’t voluntarily get up to exercise before the sun is up if I don’t have to.”
“You should try it one day.”
I snorted. “Sweetheart, the only way I’m exercising voluntarily with you at that time is if you’re next to me and naked.”
Her cheeks turned pink, but not before she licked her lips. Fuck, she was so fucking sexy. At this rate, I was definitely not going to last a week.
I wanted her too badly.
“Okay, Luck, are you working tomorrow?”
She shook her head. “No, I have tomorrow off.”
My eyes widened. “You’re free all day? I can have the whole day with you?”
I don’t think it would have been possible for me to sound any more excited.
She tapped her fingers to her lower lip as she thought. “How about the afternoon? I’ve got a couple of things to do in the morning, and I’m going to go for a run.”
“Just as long as we’re clear that the afternoon starts at twelve, Luck.”
“Isn’t that about the time you get out of bed?” Her eyes flashed in amusement.
I clasped my hands to my heart. “Oooh, you wound me.”
“Maybe you should get an early night, just so you’re ready for the morning.”
I grinned wide, excitement going ape-shit deep in my belly. “Don’t you worry about me, Lucky Charm. I’ll be ready.”
“Ralphie, can you just pull up outside her apartment?”
It was eight a.m. and I’d taken a leaf out of Jasper’s stalking, uh, dating book. I hoped I hadn’t already missed her going out, but I figured that given she usually had to wake up at the crack of dawn, she’d probably sleep a bit later on her days off.
