A look I couldn’t decipher flashed across her face.

I took her sunglasses off my collar and carefully placed them back onto her head, kissing her nose, before putting mine on.

I held my hand out. “I’ll put your headphones in my pocket.”

She uncurled her fingers, opening her palm. I took them, keeping hold of her hand and wrapping it in mine. Then I subtly shifted my dick to a more comfortable position, something I knew I’d be doing a lot of around her.

The waitress placed our order down - big fluffy omelets, toast, granola, juice, and coffee.

We were in one of my favorite brunch spots in Tribeca, a place I came to a lot because they looked after me and I could sit mostly unbothered. She picked up her juice, drinking it. It was a shade so green it could have been radioactive. Just looking at it made me feel healthier.

“You want some?” She offered me her straw.

I pulled a face of disgust. “No thanks. I’ll pass.”

She snorted.

“Okay, so let’s start small.” I sipped my much more palatable coffee. “I grew up in Massachusetts. I have one sister, Phoebe, who’s studying for an MBA. My parents are divorced, but they actually get on better now than they did when they were married. They come to a lot of my home games together. I’ve been playing hockey since I was four, and have been with the Rangers my whole professional career. Now it’s your turn.”

I picked up a piece of toast, biting into it, and looked at her wide eyed while I waited for her to begin.

She laughed loudly, putting down her nuclear waste juice. “Okay, I grew up in California. I have one older brother and one older sister.”

I grinned at her. “You’re the baby?”

“Yeah.”

“And how did you get into fitness?”

“I studied sports science and performance at Stanford, then when I graduated, I was working as a personal trainer and muscle specialist. Then I moved to the L.A. branch of the studio I’m at now.”

Smart and sexy.Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner.

“Personal trainer, huh? Wanna be mine?” I winked, flashing her my best mischievous grin, the one that usually worked to my advantage and got me anything I wanted, something about the dimple which I already knew she had a weakness for.

She laughed. “I’m not sure you need my help in that department.”

An irrational thought suddenly crossed my mind.

“You’re not anyone’s trainer right now, are you?”

I tried to keep the growl out of my voice, but I was not sure I wanted her getting that close to any man who wasn’t me.

Actually, I definitely didn’t.

“No, but one day I’d like my own gym and training facility.”

“That’s a great plan; you’d be really good at it.” I swallowed the mouthful of granola I had. “And what about your brother and sister, what do they do?”

“My sister, Piper, has two kids. She stays at home to look after them.” She dropped her eyes, looking away from me. “And my brother, Jupiter, plays baseball.”

“Oh, yeah? He any good?” But a lightbulb went off because that was not a common name, and I continued before she could answer. “Wait, your surname is Reeves. Is Jupiter Reeves your brother? Jupiter Reeves, third baseman for the Dodgers?”

She nodded slowly, her shoulders tensing up. “Yeah, you know him?”

Whoa. Holy shit.

Jupiter Reeves, the bad boy of baseball. He was worse than Felix, or at least less discreet. I vaguely remembered a night at the ESPN Awards a few years ago where they’d hada competition of who could fuck the newest Victoria’s Secret model first. The only reason I hadn’t joined that bet was because I’d already had my hands full. No wonder she was wary of hook-ups. And pro athletes.
