Cooper and Jasper tried and failed to hide their amusement. I glared at them.
“When?”
I shrugged. “Last year I think. I dunno. I’ve only had sex with Emerson this year.”
Felix snorted. “Dude, that’s fucking funny.”
“No, it isn’t. She already has a dislike of pro-athletes because of her brother, and I don’t want to jeopardize anything. I’ve always loved away games, and now I don’t want to go.”
Coop looked at me in confusion. “What’s her brother got to do with anything?”
“Oh fuck, I forgot to tell you. Her brother is Jupiter Reeves.”
Jasper gave a low whistle.
Felix’s mouth dropped open in surprise. “No way! Ask her to find out if he’s still pissed I got the girl.”
“Yeah, I’m not going to do that. Dickhead.”
“Look, man,” Cooper stopped Felix from continuing, “Yeah, it’s hard, not gonna lie. But getting home is amazing.”
I looked up at him. “Yeah?”
“Yeah. It’s better than make up sex.”
“Plus, phone sex,” Jasper added helpfully.
I thought about it. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.
“I guess, but it’s not even about the sex, I just don’t want to be away from her.”
“You’ll be fine, dude. Give it a year and you’ll be in the same position as Jas and me.”
I got quiet as pictures flashed through my mind. A future with Emerson. A tiny little baby Lucky Charm.
Yeah, I could go for that.
Dante kicked open the doors to the locker room and we followed him in.
“Fuck’s sake.” He held a towel over his eye to stem the bleeding from the cut underneath, before one of the team physicians walked over to patch him up.
I ripped off my sweaty jersey and pads, rolling my shoulders back, easing them up a little from the weight and the battering we’d just taken. Exhibition games were supposed to be for testing out new plays and lines, new transfers, and the rookies who’d moved up.
Which is what happened in the first period.
The second, however, had just ended, and it had been brutal as fuck, starting with a nasty hit on Carter Rice that escalated into an all-out brawl which didn’t seem to finish. Along with more than a few black eyes, including Dante’s, a total of twelve players had been sent off, eight of ours and four of theirs, and the score which was three - nil to us at the end of the first, was now standing at three all.
The third period would be all to play for.
Jasper stood in the middle of the room, hands on his hips. “Listen up! Coach is on the way and about to tear us a new one, so lock it the fuck down and keep your mouths shut.”
He walked over to Carter Rice whose head was hanging low, a big purple bruise forming on his cheek, and squeezed his shoulder.
“You okay, Rook?”
He looked up. “Yeah, Cap, I’m good.”
The door flew open and everyone turned, then groaned as Felix walked in with a massive grin on face, also sporting a black eye.
