"I hope you're right," he said
"Only time will tell."
His phone blared out from his pocket, and I winced.
"Do you not have it on silent?" I asked.
"No," he responded. "I can shut it off." He pulled it out of his pocket, surprise registering on his face.
"Who is it?" I asked.
"Hermes. Speak of the messenger god and he shall appear."
"Something like that."
"I can call him back later," he responded.
I shook my head. "Get it now, it'll put your mind at ease. I need to go tend to the cats." I wasn't sure what was going on, but I could hear concerning sounds in the other room, and I wanted to make sure that they weren't up to no good.
"If you're sure?" He looked at me with concern.
"Talk to Hermes," I said as I got to my feet.
He smiled at me, seeming relieved by my response. And I could understand why, but I wasn't trying to say that he couldn't spend any of his time on other things, especially not when they were important. I just wanted to make sure that we were communicating and doing what we could in order to make sure that our relationship succeeded this time around, and I was sure that would be the case.
Chapter 15
Bastet
It took longer than I expected to sort out the cats, and somehow, I was now covered in hairball slime and several new scratches. It wasn't the ideal look to have when Ptah was in the building, but I supposed he'd seen me like this plenty of times before, it wasn't as if he'd never had to deal with my cats.
As if he was summoned by my thoughts, he appeared in the doorway and raised an eyebrow. "What happened?"
"Cats," I responded. "It's fine, I just need to change. And maybe shower. What did Hermes have to say?"
"That I wouldn't be bothered by the journalist again," Ptah responded. "
"How did he even manage that? I'm not even a journalist, but if someone told me not to investigate something again, I would look into it more," I admitted.
Ptah shrugged. "I'm not really sure, but he promised that it wouldn't be an issue again."
"Then we can trust him with that," I responded as I made my way over to him and put a hand on his chest. "Maybe we should put Hermes out of our minds?"
"Oh?" He looked down at me with a lot of affection in his gaze.
I leaned in and brushed my lips against his, glad when he reacted instantly. He pulled me closer until I melted against him. Everything in his kiss matched what he was telling me about wanting this, and I could feel how much he cared about me. But then I'd known that since the moment I'd seen him at the Jinx speed dating event.
I broke our kiss and leaned back slightly. "Why don't we go for that shower?" I suggested, my voice low and husky.
"We?" he asked.
"Why shower alone when I can have company?" I trailed my hand down his chest as I said it.
"Is it big enough?" he asked.
"Only if I'm pressed against you," I responded with a devious smile on my face. "But I can't say I'm opposed to the idea."
"Then lead the way."
