I make a playfully disapproving face at him, and he gives a huff of soft amusement.

“Okay,” he says, groaning softly as he stands up. “I better get outta here before Nell comes banging on the door.”

Nell has actually been known to do that when other servers haven’t been able to get rid of their customers.

“Well, I guess I’ll see you on Saturday then?” I say, lifting my tone at the end to make it a question.

“Sure thing.” He looks like he’s about to say something else when he gets distracted by something on the windowsill.

My sketchbook, which I didn’t close after I was drawing out on the roof last night.

Without asking, he reaches down to pick it up and peer at the sketches on the open pages. “This is real good. You did this?”

“Y-yeah.”

“You’re good.”

“Thank you. I like to draw the constellations and the myths behind them.”

He flips the pages to look at more of my drawings. “You really know them.”

“My granddad used to show me the stars and teach me the constellations and all the stories.”

He takes a minute to flip page after page. He really should have asked, but I can’t summon up much resentment because he seems to appreciate my silly work so much.

“You’re almost out of pages,” he says, reaching the end.

“I know. I use front and back, but I draw every night unless it’s too cloudy, and that’s the last of the books I had before Impact. I mentioned it to Nell, and she said she’d keep an eye out. Maybe we can scavenge another one.”

“I’m sure there’s more around. That kind of thing wouldn’t get looted immediately like food and medicine.”

“I know. So I’m hoping.” I smile at him, extending my hand in a silent request to have the book back.

Cade seems to be a careful, considerate man. He’s not likely to accidentally damage it.

But still…

That book is my most treasured possession, and I’m not used to anyone looking at it or touching it.

“Okay,” he says, rubbing his beard and giving my body one more quick look. “I gotta get. See you next weekend.”

“See you.” I’m smiling as I walk him to the door and then close it after he leaves.

My back and thighs and pussy are sore. Very sore. But it was still a good night. I got a very good orgasm and five apples.

And I made Cade happy.

So I have no complaints.

On Saturday,I’m in a good mood all day, looking forward to Cade showing up in the evening.

Most of my fucks aren’t terrible or traumatic. They’re perfunctory. Maybe a little uncomfortable but not always so. They feel like work though. Every job has parts that are less pleasant than the rest, and fucking customers is that for me.

I don’t usually think about it very much, but I’ve never before been excited about a fuck at the end of a shift.

But Cade doesn’t really feel like work to me.
