I can envision a number of options that could move us forward in our relationship, even in the shitty world we’ve got, but he evidently doesn’t want that.

That means it’s time to change the subject. Any more of this and I’ll for sure get depressed. So I push him over onto his back. Kiss his mouth and then his beard and then his neck.

“Whatcha doing, girl?”

“I’m kissing you.” I’m down to his chest now. I grin up at him with my lips poised over one of his nipples.

“This feels like more than kissing. We’re almost outta time, aren’t w—?” He breaks off with a little yelp when I tuck my head to nip at his side.

Pleased with his reaction, I keep kissing my way down until I’ve reached his cock, which is already hardening again.

I suck him off until he’s moaning and muttering about how good I’m taking him down, and I let him come into my mouth, applying suction until his penis and the rest of his body is utterly soft.

He’s so worn out afterward that his eyelids are half closed. I snuggle at his side and wrap his arm around me.

Surely we can take a few minutes like this before Nell comes pounding on the door.

The next thing I’m aware of is waking up with my cheek smushed against Cade’s chest.

I have no idea what time it is, but it’s got to be late. Much, much later than it should be.

Cade should have left hours ago.

He’s sound asleep beside me, so I sit up and shake his shoulder. “Cade. Cade, wake up. We fell asleep.”

“What’s that, angel?” His eyes haven’t opened, and his voice is groggy and slurred.

“We fell asleep! You need to get out of here. Nell’s going to be pissed.”

“What? Oh. Shit.” He makes a harrumphing sound as he sits up. “Fuck, what the hell?”

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have fallen asleep. But you better go.”

He’s already moving, dropping his legs over the side of the bed and reaching for his boxers and jeans. “I fell asleep too. It’s my fault.”

“If I’d stayed awake, I would have been able to wake you up after a few minutes. But it doesn’t matter. We both fell asleep.”

He’s throwing his clothes on and stuffing his feet into his shoes as I talk. He grabs his pack and then turns back toward the bed, leaning down to kiss me.

He has a very particular smile on his face as he pulls away.

“What are you laughing at?” I demand. “Is my hair a mess?”

“Well, it’s been neater. And you have the imprint of my chest hair on your cheek.”

I gasp and raise a hand to cover my hot cheek. Then I can’t help but laugh when Cade does too.

“I’ll be back tomorrow, as long as Nell doesn’t want to punish me for breaking the rules.”

“She could’ve come in. She’s done that before. So maybe she’ll let us have this one slipup.”

“Let’s hope. Goodbye, angel.”

I just woke up from a sound sleep. And I’m currently overwhelmed with warm, sappy feelings for this man.

That’s the only explanation.

Without thinking, I say as he opens the door, “Goodbye, Captain Cade. Be safe. Love you.”
