She waved the people in.

“He said he owes you one for saving Winn. We all owe you for that.”

No, they really didn’t.

Because she didn’t save Jet.

“They’re mine,” she said. “Trust and believe. Love you. Talk to you later.”

Then, she hung up.

As the two men approached, she didn’t expect to see them there at that time of the night.

“Well, Dexter Corbin, I see Jack woke you guys up and wanted you to be as miserable as everyone else. Welcome to the fucking party.”

Max headed her way and hugged her.

“Hey, Elizabeth. We heard about Jet. We’re so sorry,” Max Holder, the US Attorney General said, as he held her.

She went lax in his arms and let him comfort her. Now, she needed it more than ever.

“Thank you,” she said.

Dex ran his hand up and down her back in reassurance that they were there for her. He’d planned on coming by himself, but when Max heard where he was going, he demanded to come along.

“No need,” Dex said. “Jack did call, but because he wants me to help Quinn tomorrow look for bodies. I hear you’re up to your eyeballs in shit. I saw the news last week about Devon Slater getting away.”

Max was to the point.

“I never liked that slimy piece of shit,” he said. “I’ve seen him at parties in DC. He’s creepy as fuck, and gave off that vibe.”

Well, she had bad news.

“Creepy would be an understatement. He’s a rabid, disgusting, horrible psychopath who has been killing people for years. We just didn’t know it.”

So they could talk, they sat in the chapel.

“Is what they say accurate?” Max asked.

She nodded.

The reason she would clue them in was Max would likely be handling this asshole’s court case.

OR HERS.

Because she might just be going to jail for homicide on this one, if she didn’t do it right.

“Between you and me, he likes digging up women’s bodies, fucking them, and taking their eyes. He likes bones too. He collects their heads by removing them, and then using their boney mouths to get off.”

Both men looked grossed out.

Yeah, her too.

“I thought he was gay,” Max said. “Well, that was the word on the street.”

She was aware.

“He could be. Or he could have pretended to cover his ass. He’s been training asThe Grave Robberfor two decades.”
