Alex had been dealing with some research and paperwork until almost five in the morning. He’d literally only slept for three hours before he got up so they could spend the day together.

Well, when he got up to buy those shiny gold bands that they’d both wear until their final breaths.

“That sounds good,” he said. “I do love breakfast in bed,” he stated.

Alex was biting his tongue as he tried not to look like an overexuberant fool.

It was so damn difficult, too.

At his comment, Corbin moved further into the room, and there was a little café table not far away. This room had beenan office, at one point, and there was a sunroom attached. It was where Corbin came to work most of the time when he was home.

No one slept in here.

Until now.

Sadly, it was a place for Alex to run and hide.

Apparently.

Seeing the man so happy in the spare room did something unpleasant in Corbin.

It made that self-doubt creep in, and Corbin fought that slide in his mood.

It took all he had to stay calm as he hoped and prayed that there was a logical reason Alex came here, and not to bed with him.

He’d been pretty clear that he wanted a relationship, and that he wanted it with him.

In his world, that meant sleeping together—no matter what time someone came to bed.

Yeah, this one change in the man’s normally consistent behavior had him worked up.

Corbin was so goddamn confused.

When Alex told him to leave his brownstone inDamascus, on the last case they worked together, he had. He’d believed it to be over until Alex showed up at his place. They’d had an honest conversation and fell into bed.

Since then, they’d been together, and nothing had changed.

Until now.

Corbin fought to stay in control, even when he believed this man was slipping through his fingers.

“I hope you’re hungry.”

Honestly, Alex was. He was also excited, giddy, and feeling a million feelings that had been kept from him for somany years. Corbin unlocked them, and now, he was in a damn good place in his life.

“Here or the table?” Corbin asked.

Alex smiled happily.

“The table is fine. It’s a nice day out there.”

Was it?

Corbin felt like there was a storm brewing, as a tornado came sweeping into his world.

“Okay.”

Slipping out of bed, Alex put on his slippers, and he followed Corbin out onto the patio. It took all he had not to skip along like a lunatic.
