Cuddling back down into his body, Corbin held him.

“Did they pay?” he asked.

Corbin nodded.

“They paid dearly.”

Well, then, that made him feel better because the mere idea that his man had been sexually assaulted, and then hurt…

It pissed him off.

“Good, because I was going to find their names, and go after them. I wanted to make them bleed for hurting my one-day husband.”

That made him smile.

“Protective, huh?”

He held onto him.

“Yes. You’d better believe it. You’re my partner, Corbin. I’d take a bullet for you. I’d die for you as just your partner. Imagine what I’d do for you as my husband.”

Tears filled Corbin’s eyes.

“Live for me, then,” he said. “With me. Forever.”

Alex nuzzled his chin.

“Absolutely. I promise.”

And truthfully, Alex Bartlett would.

For the first time in Alex’s life, he saw the promise of a brighter day.

Nothing would hurt them going forward.

And once more, Alex Bartlett was wrong. Something could hurt them, and they wouldn’t be able to stop it.

As his family was in turmoil, Gene wanted to be proactive as he worked to find a way to keep them safe.

His gut was telling him that if they didn’t find something, this was going to be a bloodbath, and with the family on the receiving end.

No one wanted that.

Losing Jet had been difficult, and Gene hated that they were basically prisoners inside FBI West as the shit was going down outside the doors.
